I’ve been working with the roto brush a great deal of the past few months and picked up a few tricks.

I’m running AE CS5 in Windows 7 with 12 GB RAM using two dual i7 cores, and the roto-brush freeze wait time is significant when my clips are over 7 seconds. Generally, I break all my clips into 4 second roto-brush spans in order to reduce the brush calculation wait times when freezing roto’d clips.

    Good luck on your project.

I agree with Noah. Don’t sweat the ISO. Think of the available lighting when shooting.

I have the AG-HMC150 and an EOS 7D and I use them both differently. I use the HMC150 for lengthy shoots (+20 minutes) with good lighting. The 7D gets pretty hot when shooting video and isn’t nearly as portable as the HMC150 for those ‘run & gun’ situations (e.g., weddings).

I use the 7D for low light situations that I can’t always control and planned shoots (e.g., weddings).

    Good luck.

Personal opinion – go the HD route, even if you’re a hobbyist.

I picked up the AG-HMC40 this past February and love it. Super versatile; I use it everyday in my work (HD stock footage & VFX HD): AVCHD 1080p capture, Neo HD intermediate, and on thru to CS5 production suite for post work finishing. The footage from my AG-HMC40 hasn’t let me down yet.

    Good luck!

    FYI: B&H Photo has AG-HMC40 for $1920
