July 8, 2013 at 7:49 pm in reply to: an important question about version differences and usageI don’t know about 6.5 but I just opened a project in MC 7 and of the 12 bins I had open, 2 would not open in version 6.0.3r – I do believe they both had modified sequences but neither had unusual if any effects used in them. I tried to open on two different computers with MC 6 and neither would open – they are not corrupt as they both still open in MC 7. I went in on the windows level and deleted all traces of files indicating the project was ever open in MC 7, including the .avs file(s).
Perhaps this is just our systems here or just a coincidence. I would do a test project with a simple sequence and see what happens. Here is a very helpful link about bins and MC Versions: – I am obviously not on the latest version of MC 6 – youtube “Media Composer 7 – Opening Bins in Previous Versions – Avid

July 4, 2013 at 11:43 pm in reply to: Bought 5.5 – 7.0 upgrade, can I download 6.5 as well?Yes, that is correct – assuming you have qualified hardware then your v7 dongle will run whatever you install – all of our 11 dongles are v7 and we are running MC 5.5, 6, 6.5 and 7 on various machines PC and Mac, XP and Win 7

July 3, 2013 at 2:34 pm in reply to: Bought 5.5 – 7.0 upgrade, can I download 6.5 as well?Sorry Glenn – that is not quite right. I registered dongle, purchased MC 7, they provided a dongle versioner which updates the dongle to be able to run MC 7 — this dongle will still run any earlier version you have installed. It will also “activate” the MC software version 7 when 7 is installed. You do not have to install 7 to make it update or anything.

June 24, 2013 at 4:23 pm in reply to: AMA Relink deleted transcodes with fps conversionClarification: “Can I relink AMA, retranscode/convert” – means, can I AMA link as before then transcode/convert which should create “.new.02” files – can I then re-establish a link so my “.new.01” media in sequences are online?

We have had no problems with our Pix240, however we are on MC 6.0.3 – we are about to upgrade to 6.5 then on to 7 —- makes me wonder if it isn’t a version flaw and makes me hesitant now about upgrading!

When you update dongle you will typically run a “versioner” file – re-version and blasting is the same thing.

Yes, purchase upgrade and re-version or blast the dongle – the dongle is not specific to MAC or PC – works on both.
