September 19, 2013 at 4:17 pm in reply to: C300 spanned clips crash MC7 when transcoding/consolidating.We had a long camera roll that created 3 MTS files (buried in folders down to the “STREAM” folder. The tell-tale sign was that we had 00005.MTS file at 2gb, 00006.MTS at 2gb and 00007.MTS at 954mb —- the file size limit of our Canon is 2gb, therefore I knew from the consecutive files and sizes that these 3 files were “spanned”. I linked to the 3 files, transcoded and then edited them in a sequence to create the “one” clip just as the camera had recorded.
Granted it was not ideal but it worked. I’m not sure what you mean by a viable online file to reconnect to after online …. we just keep the camera originals if we need the footage later.

September 19, 2013 at 12:38 pm in reply to: C300 spanned clips crash MC7 when transcoding/consolidating.Unfortunately it isn’t an Avid issue …. they say … they have washed their hands of “third party plugins” and say it is the manufacturer’s responsibility to make their equipment/software/plugins function properly within Avid.
We downloaded/installed everything we could get our hands on specifically regarding Canon spanned clips. I believe we have one system finally working but cannot determine what we did right to make it work. It is very confusing and I realize we went about it the wrong way (as far as determining what worked and what didn’t) because we were not patient, did not have time to correctly solve the issue … we acknowledge that!! It is complicated at best for ‘basic editors’ – it seems, in this evolving technology, we need “Avid Engineers” who have an understanding of Computers, Software, Hardware, Drivers, a background or doctorate in IT/IS systems and functionality and an understanding of applications (specifically Avid) in order to function smoothly.
If I find what we did right then I will respond … we are trying to duplicate the working machine on 5 other computers.

Thank you Shane – I will look into these options!

if the codec is apple intermediate, no … if it is prores codec then it should have worked in Avid even though it is PC.
Bottom line is that if the codec is not available for PC (windows) then you must convert it to a codec on the MAC that can be read on a PC (using a codec that is available or “installable” on a PC.

From all I know it must be a codec issue …. movie inspector does not list the video codec? Also, if you are on a PC then try to view on a MAC or vice-versa.

In Qt, does it open as a video file or audio file? Initially it sounds like it has no video but if that was the case Avid would have brought in audio only. Is the video screen white in QT Player just as it appeared inside Avid?
I obviously do not have the answer here and am only trying to help troubleshoot … give some time and a more knowledgeable forum member will probably be able to help you.

I believe (id) indicates this file has been to/from FCPX – that said, it should not be a problem in Avid MC, especially as you were able to import …. the white screen indicates you do not have the proper codec on your machine. Open the .mov file in QT and view movie inspector to see what codec was used.

Are you burning from Encore to DVD or to folder – if to folder, what program are you using to burn the DVD?
