Sounds perfect for a GoPro with a handle mounted on top so the fly can land and take off. Shoot at a higher frame rate for smoother speed ramps.
Best of luck!

I love Optical Flares from Video Copilot for AE. https://www.videocopilot.net/products/opticalflares/
You can also mix that with any number of “physical” flare products like Lumineux from Crumple Pop. https://www.crumplepop.com/fcp-6-7-plugins-effects/
Or Luca’s Grunge Collection from FX Factory. https://www.noiseindustries.com/fxfactory/
Lots more out there! Just do a google search for light leaks.
Best of luck!

We use a turn table marketed to bakeries. It is reversible and speed adjustable and was very inexpensive compared to “commercial” turn tables. It’s not for heavy duty uses but we have shot a LOT of cell phones on it. Getting them to stand up is the tricky part as each phone has a different shape, center point, weight distribution and mounting option. We have used tacky wax, USB plugs taped green and keyed out, carpet tape and giant paper clips, clear plastic run behind the battery, etc. The key is to give yourself enough room along the bottom to rotoscope out the rig.
Best of luck!

Just to add my 2 cents … I work at a large production company in the Midwest. We do all kinds of production but mostly commercial and corporate work using every camera from the Alexa to the 170. We still use the term ENG crew to describe a 1 or 2 person crew (shooter/audio) that might be covering a political candidate, doing a run-and-gun corporate shoot or anything that moves quickly and doesn’t need a lot of finesse. We use the term EFP to describe a 3-4 person crew (shooter/audio/grips) doing a larger corporate shoot with more complex set-ups or a small, low budget commercial crew, etc. Once we start adding, gaffers, camera assistants, make-up and PAs, we don’t use those terms.

What format are you shooting? That will help us narrow down the discussion. If it is film, you could use S16 and get a dof similar to a 2/3 video camera which is also deeper than 35mm.
The best suggestion so far … get some lights!

The only real option you have to keep any depth of field at that low light level is to use a wider angle lens. Using a depth of field calculator will give you an idea of how wide you need to be at a f1.3 to get the depth you want.

All great ideas so far and I have used them all. Video copilot’s Optical Flares is great especially if you are working with 3D layers in After Effects. What I like about Crumple Pop’s is that it is actually video clips as opposed to a software (that’s why it’s so cheap) but it’s great for those who don’t want to mess with a plug-in. Lots of options including transitions.
MB is just a great tool to have around. Worth it’s weight in gold. Wait, that wouldn’t weigh very much. You know what I mean.
Best of luck!
