Hi Blaise. Thanks for your reply.

So you are essentially using the vector path as a mask on the solid layer, right? Or is the vector shape a new 3d layer? I tried the latter, but when I move it to the same ‘plane’ as the 3d solid, it slips out of position as the camera moves (even though the 3d solid seems just fine).

I was going to try and upload a video, but Creative Cow doesn’t seem to let me.

    Kind Regards,
    Rich

  • I thought I would respond to this thread than begin another as I think my question relates. I am a relative newcomer to AE and am fumbling my way through. Expressions and scripts are quite new to me. I have a scene of a lot of cutouts of people (numerous 3d layers at different ‘z’ distances to the camera). This is how it looks at the moment:-

At the moment, all my people are tinted the same, but I would like to be able to desaturate and lighten the people out the further they are from my camera. This is basically what I am trying to achieve:-

Could anyone explain exactly how I should do this please?

    Kind Regards,
    Rich

I have another shot now with a cracked column that needs painting out somehow. A replacement won’t cut it this time because of perspective change etc.

I need to track a few clone-stamp brush swipes over the duration of the clip.

    Kind Regards,
    Rich

Thanks for the reply. This certainly would be a way to do it, and thanks for the suggestion.

I was hoping to be able to clone out the dirty bits and track the clone as this sort of thing comes up time and time again with my work: it isn’t always garage doors 😉

    Kind Regards,

That’s a brilliant set of Youtube videos. A lot of it can even be applied to static imagery (my forté).

    Thanks for the link.

Go for the biggest SSD drives you can afford: you will always fill them up.
