Good luck changing the culture. I mean, they’ve done what they’ve done and made a living. Don’t mess with that. You might be able to tell the editor, “Just because I’m curious, can you cut that by removing/cutting-out the zooms?”

That’s a bummer of a problem, never seen it happen before. I have two questions:

1. Are the details of the same, as seen in the browser details of the videos?

2. Do the first clips have any effects applied?

That’s more of a cinematography question. Exterior lighting’s contrast ratio changes every 8 minutes as the sun moves in the sky. Add moving clouds to the mix and matching exposure requires some technical ability. This is why it’s important to learn to shoot in manual mode using either a light meter, the waveform, or the zebras. The situation you describe is not created by the camera, format, editing, codec; it’s created by the shooting environment.

You might be able to do this in After Effects. Here’s a tutorial along the same lines to get you started.

Anyway, you might want to ask the AE expressions forum, but my guess (having never tried to do this, but I think it’s a good idea) is to create two audio tracks of the same exported audio. Layer 1 is the control track and Layer 2 “audio level mapped to effect track.”

My opinion is you need a graphic designer to create a clean brand look to your brochures.

Otherwise, I think, directing potential customers to a Web site is a reasonable strategy.

Tough little problem to state.

I would test that pen and button cam footage first because if you can’t get it to look good in DVCPRO HD, then using it in the edit is suspect. Usually that’s very compelling footage.

I’ll say it just to say it, so folks can disagree if need be: If the pen and button footage is compelling and it doesn’t look great uprezzed, then perhaps editing in DV is your best bet.

Then when you have picture lock, you can output to HDCAM and get a decent uprez that way, for blu-ray.

If blu-ray is unreasonable, maybe DV ain’t so bad.
