    Hi Steve,

Have already searched the forum, found some answers but others not quite specific enough with regards to change the compressor to apple pro res in the settings or actually send the footage to compressor and change it there before importing it back into fcp?

    Which tutorial?

To change the codec in FCP do I compress the images or just change it in the sequence settings because if the cip settings don’t match the sequence settings it can takes ages to render?

Do I change the sequence settings then when I am ready to export, compress to apple res then export?

Or do I compress before I start editing?

  • Hi,

I wonder if you might be able to help.

An editor has asked for a showreel in the following format,

    Hi Rafael,

    I shoot on a 550d.

Before editing should the footage by compressed to pro res as its in H.264?

I have just put a showreel together for an editor who is putting together a showreel to showcase the companies in my building and I can’t seem to export the final film in the format he wants despite exporting it in the format he requested, DV Pal 720×576 25fps

I have gone through the clips on the timeline sequence and everything is in different formats. Should I compress then export or should exporting in the above format work? Because it doesn’t seem to be what he’s after?!

    Please help.

    Final Cut DV Pal, 720 x 576 25fps

We shot in 1080 x 720 or 760 on a 550d DSLR and edited in H.264 as this is the format of the .mov files the 550D shoots in

We have exported out footage in the format requested but the editor says it isn’t quite right and to try exporting it anamorphic but this just made the images ‘squashed’

To be honest, I am just at a loss. Could the fact that we edited in H.264 be a problem? Should we compress to apple pro res or something first?

  • Hi Tom,

Why is it important not to edit in H.264?

I currently shoot on a 550d, the format of my rushes is H.264.

Should i be compressing these rushes to another format first then?

We have had issues with shots going out of sync for no real reason, this may be the reason for this. I am surprised that I have never read that before! Thanks!
