    Wayne,

I bought a ‘Chimei’ 22 inch flat monitor recently. I paid $300. compared to the $1,000. for the Apple 23. Big price difference but also very big image quality difference. I have my old Apple Display (17 inch) next to it. There is no compareson with the picture quality. But it is $600. cheaper and I use it for the FCP layout — gives me lots of room. I like that. I do my video watching and color timing on a Sony NTSC monitor. So price if important can work but if you want the rel deal go with the Apple display.

    (in my opinion)

I guess one can only ‘Send To’ one track not the two I was trying to send. One channel has the boom mike and the other the lav. I’m trying to remove the ‘room tone’ (the city building had the heat roaring through ducks in the ceiling). Soundtrack Pro works like magic for this kind of situation.

So I guess I’ve solved my problem. One track at a time.

Yes. 2.1.1. I think I’ve fix my problem for now. Un-installed FCP 5.1.2 and MB 2.1.1
Re-installed FCP 5.1 and MB 2.1.1 Now things seem stable. I think I’ll wait awhile on FCP 5.1.2. Although I have to re-build one edit project. Saved under 5.1.2 can’t open in 5.1 Thanks for the help.

Yes. I downloaded the update from the web. I had some trouble installing it — over MB Editors V.1 It double installed all the effects. I threw everyting away. Tech support gave me a serial number that I used (not having to re-install V.1 after throwing away my firt attemt to install.) After this a few strange things happened. All my mail and bookmakers vanished from Netscape– maybe a coincidence? — then FCP started acting strange. Now crashing on opening all the time. And the box about AE EFFECTS. I click ‘NO’ I don’t want to look in another directory (because I can’t find ‘Title 3D.bundle’). The box just flicks on and off but won’t go away. Then after many attemps it will then, shortly, FCP will crash.

Vince, If just the second monitor is needed for now, couldn’t you loop through the monitor you’re using now? Oe perhaps drive another monitor off of the video out of your deck?

PS: Liked your reel, pretty funny.

    I have a 125 gig LaCie (1394 Disk drive LUN 0)
(not in a RAID) Just a stand alone 400 firewire. Anyway it acts the same way. It started making odd noises — like a ‘ticking water meter’ if that means anything to anybody. About a tenth of the time it won’t mount. I get the box ‘drives connected are not readable by the computer, do I want to eject, ignore, or initialize’ Turn off at the blue light and turn back on. It will mount. I took off the project files and put them on another firewire. I still have it but I think I’m throwing it away.

    Bill,

Thank you for our time and answer. I was trying to archive the finished video material. Not making a DVD that clients or whoever could watch. I didn’t make that clear. I don’t have a double sided burner, but a great idea. I’m going to check that out.

I think I’ll divide the movie into two parts (very easy as it has fade outs between major parts.) and burn each half to a DATA DVD. I just wanted to save it as QT encase I ever had to import it.

    Thank you for you time.

    Hello Shane,

Thanks for getting back to me. No, I’m not trying to make a dvd.

I have most of that figured out. I was trying to archive a video project. I thought I could save it as a QT movie and burn it to a data DVD disk. Then I could re-import it if I had to make some change later. Non-compressed it was 4.6 gigs. I wanted to compress it just a little to fit on a DVD disk 4.7 (but really 4.2). Now I think I’ll divide the movie in half and save each to a data dvd.

    Make sense?

    Walter,

I’ve done this for clients in the past. The quality isn’t really all that bad for what they use it for. My problem has been making it bigger then 240×360. That’s the only size I can make it come out. Is there a way around this? Thanks,

    Richard

    I’m using Compressor 1.2.1 on a G4 dual 1 gig, 10.3.8, FCP 4.5, 1 gig ram.
