The first solution is very expansive, not for home video makers.
The second is better, but not good. The two picture is not in syncron, if a fast moving object is
on the screen, it is not in 3D. I tested it.
The best method is using 2 synronised camera (with LANC controller) -
3D from one source video? Are you kidding?

from two d8 camcorders.

Take your GL2 with polarizer filter.
And please, show me the Hawaii nature! -
Take a shot with 2 camcorders, one for right eye, and one for the left.
Insert those clips to different video track.
Synronize it! (maybe the audio clicks, pops helps)Use the filters for colorize the tracks to red and cyan.
And dont forget to set the upper track composition mode to screen or add.If this is hard, use the free stereo movie maker.
