I don’t know if this applies, but I export from PI using the Lagarith codec – sometimes with Alpha sometimes not. I have found it to be lossless (it’s advertised as such) and it’s free! Find it at:
    https://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html
    – it has just been updated. Best of luck!

    Alan,

I hope this makes my signature line more readable:

    Alan,

Sorry for the note of panic in my forum voice. Thank you very much as well for your help in fixing my problem! All involved in Particle Illusion development should get as much rest as possible – it is a fantastic program.

Sorry my signature line gives you a headache, but I have found it to be very true.

All the best, and thanks again for the help.

Alan, Thanks for the response. The reason I am using 873×480 is that when I export a “snapshot” image from my NTSC Widescreen (1.222)Vegas timeline, that is the measurement that results. I can work with PI’s 876×480 just fine, however. Thank you for the additional info on .AVI idiosyncrasies!

  • This what I did in Vegas and it worked great. I was trying to slow down the “spread effect” in the WAVES2 emitter in the “water” collection:

    1. Determine the length of the clip to be used in Vegas.
    2. Execute and render your effect in PI at that length but set frame rate to 120fps (or higher) in “Preferences” in PI.
    3. Put the render from PI on the Vegas timeline (it will be shorter) and CTRL-stretch (time stretch, not repeat) the render to the original frame length.
    4. A smooth reduction in the effect speed is produced, approx 4x slower than the original.

In theory there’s no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.
