    I’d also like to add…… This particular project is now showing up all blue in the FCPX timeline.

  • Got it…….. I opened up my Pegasus from my desktop and looked at my listed folders. There was a “Private” folder from a previous SD card download from my camcorder. I placed it in the proper folder it belonged to and opened up FCPX and my Pegasus was under Devices.

    July 20, 2017 at 2:38 pm in reply to: Pegasus3 R6 24TB – Hard Drive Noise Question:

    Thanks for your input…….. I’m running in Raid 5. Other than archiving and/or file transferring, the drives are fairly quiet. Playback of 4K is 99% quiet, just a gurgle now and then. I don’t know anyone that has a Pegasus therefore, I don’t know if this is normal or not. Thanks again for explaining some thing that may be the cause. Ray

    Actually, all I need to know if there is anybody else that has a noisy Promise Technology Pegasus raid array. All six drives seem to be quite noisy during the FCPX archiving. This has nothing to do with my MacBook Pro hard drive. Thanks, Ray

    Yes, I normally copy the entire SD card and keep it intact in a folder on an external hard drive. I then perform the following steps;
    Open FCPX
    Open the import window
    Click on the hard drive that contains the folder
    Highlight the folder
    Create Archive

    During the process of archiving, the Pegasus drives are noisy as they’re spinning. This is the only time they get noisy, the drives are quiet during playback. Thanks, ray

    Thanks for the reply……… I’m archiving off my SD card.

  • Below you will find the answer I received today from Promise Technology;
    Ray,
    I’ve forwarded your comments to the engineering team and asked when this will be available. Unfortunately, the release date won’t be until later this year from our corporate office in Taiwan. We are trying to push the date up but there is no specific date being given. I apologize for the delay and the frustration it is causing.
    Regards,
    John Holland

    Hi, Just came across this do to a Google search. Why??? I just purchased a new Pegasus3 R6 24TB less than 10 days ago which I ran in Raid 5. I was backing up some video from an external 3.0 drive through my maxed out 2016 15″ MacBook Pro to the Pegasus3. I heard the fan ramp up a little, therefore I took a look at the Promise Utilities to see how things were running. To my surprise, I had a Backplane temperature warning……… now get this…… I have only transferred 41GB, Yes 41GB which took 11 minutes (see warning pic below). I contacted Pegasus and was conversing with them off and on for about four hours. They finally concluded that the chassis was bad and wanted me to send it in. I stated that that was unacceptable, this Pegasus is less than 10 days old and that I wanted a full replacement. Then I received a call from them stating that that they could only change out the chassis. I repeated what I said in the chat conversation. He then stated, try returning it to the place of purchase for an exchange. By this time, I was pretty POed to say the least. I did contact where I purchase it, B&H Photo. Yes it was less than 30 days, therefore returning it wasn’t a problem. B&H has “always” been number 1 for me throughout many, many years and are taking care of it. Bottom line, I.M.O., Promise Technology lacked the integrity I thought they had along with being unethical due to not replacing it directly. Now B&H has to deal with a manufacturer problem……… which Promise Technology is going to get back anyway. Yes, I’m exchanging it for another one only because of the reputation of the product. Yes, I do realize that these things happen. I just don’t like the way it was handled. Hopefully, this next one will be great and in all likelihood it will be. Now that I have that off my chest…… Happy editing and thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders!
