yeah I can see how that would work. I don’t really want to bandaid this though.

My workaround wasn’t any better… I converted the original file to another format (I converted to .mov). The quality was significantly degraded in the process, so I’m not excited. I haven’t tried other formats.

So far, Sony continues to give bland attempts at solving this. I wonder how many people are having this problem…? For me, it’s only with mpeg-2 encoded stuff from my hava recording device.

I’m having this exact same issue. Thanks for the response, John, but I’m afraid that doesn’t work either.

I open a new project and import a standard MPEG file. The file is about 485,000 KB in size, and according to Vegas is recorded @ 29.97 FPS in MPEG-2 format, NTSC DV Widescreen.

Attributes are 720 X 480 X 32, 22,486.

Audio: MPEG Layer 2, 48,000 Hz, 22,496.943

You should know I have no idea what these numbers mean. 🙂 Just trying to help you help us.

The video file plays fine in ANY other playback software. But stick it in Vegas and suddenly the video plays back about twice as fast as the audio, making editing impossible.

I’ve started a service ticket with Sony to see what they say, but so far I’m getting the standard runaround. Turn this and that off, etc. Nothing they’ve suggested works. Frustrating that the problem seems so rare.

I edited these exact same files in Sony Vegas Platinum 8 (free trial) with NO issues. Then naturally, I pay for the software and boom… doesn’t work.

Any thoughts?
