Good point J. I’m obviously looking for someone that has had experience recording with the JVC HD-SDI out though. Just curious if there were any issues, if they were pleased, etc. Finding the right device to then record to will be an issue and I will post that question in the HD forum as you suggested. Thanks.

This is great information guys and I really appreciate your time and the discussion. I think on this project I will go with the HDV footage I’ve already captured, edit in HDV and render in 720p 24 Pro Res. I would be interested to know if the HDMI output of the JVC BR-HD50 deck would be a good way to feed footage to the AJA iO HD unit to ingest as 720p 24 Pro Res in future projects. What do you think?

Thank you for the feedback. I have been editing HDV for a couple years with great results. I will try the final Pro Res render. Thanks.

Thanks Gary. If the script is something that can be ordered or purchased I’d be interested in finding out more about it. I appreciate your help.

BTW I just noticed that the AJA iO HD has a HDMI in and out. Would using the HDMI out of the JVC HD50 deck into the HDMI input of the AJA iO HD be a better solution than using a HD-SDI converter and inputing via HD-SDI? Any input is most appreciated. 🙂

Thanks Gary. Do you have a process that you use with automater that you could share? 🙂

Wow Sean. Thanks for all the information. This gels with what I had been led to believe and read about converting HDV to Pro Res. I will try it tonight. Thanks again for all the detail!

Thanks for the quick reply Walter. I have a JVC BR-HD50 deck for playing back my 720p HDV tapes. And I’m editing on a MacBook Pro laptop with Matrox MXO. How would I injest footage besides using the firewire output in this scenario? Sounds like I need to stay with HDV on this project.
