thanks for the responses. I was able to compress on using toast and the 8gig file fit fine. I was probably making this more difficult than it was.
Hey Wick. Were you a customer support person at M100 a few years ago? I thoiught there was guy with a name really similar that got me out of some real jams. M100 customer support was the reason I used that NLE. You could not get me to buy FCP simply cause they stop supporting older versions. As soon as this film which I have been working on for three years is done I wi ll upgrade from Producer to the next version. I expect there are some advantages.

    THANKS AGAIN

thanks david. I have no problem with navigating to the Jive drives. Just thought I might be doing something wrong. or causing problems down the road. I am a little concerned right now cause I am recapturing media to a different drive and when I go to the drive after I do a batch capture, only about half the icons are QT icons., The balance are the litle icons that look like pieces of paper wit the right hand corner turned down which has always to me meant there is nothing there yet the files are the correct size. ANy thoughts?

hi contrast. Poor chroma. I would have thought that it should be the same cause it is just decoding what was encoded. Not really a problem cause I would not do that. I can try it again with a differnt MOV and see if I get the same results.

Well will wonders never cease and thanks so much to all of you. SOLUTION. Ran it through MacThe Ripper again will different settings than I had originally done and voila the outcome was a VIDEO_TS file that was decoded. This file I was able to bring into Handbrake and output a MPEG 4 file that looks pretty darned good. Had this not worked I would have used my DAC200 from Datavideo-tek.com. THis thing converts even the most outlandish files but I thought the sw decoding might look better.
Hopefully this will help someone else down the line.
I have another question which I will start another thread for.

So I tried Mac the Ripper and after I did the extraction it said “BAD SECTORS”. Seems strange since it plays both on my DVD player in my computer and my home entertainment unit.

Thanks for all the help. There are 8 vob files on the DVD. I have downloaded them onto the desktop but BUP, & 2 IFO files can’t be opened in handbrake or clipstream.

On advise of my Media 100 sales person I have stayed on 10.4.11 rather than move to leopard and I believe it was either handbrake or Steramclip that said it no longer supported older OS.
Any idea why I can’t drag the all TS files to my desktop? Copy protection?
THIS IS footage from the oregon legislature where I testified regarding a brain injury my son suffered when a concussion was allowed to go untreated. I post this stuff on Youtube. So far I have 60K hits on my various posting and this is a big addition.

Yes, sum of bin duration is exactly what I want however I have never done any “script” work.
I just dragged the 20 bins to a timeline and added them all up manually. Took me a while but probably a lot less time than trying to learn teh script.
    Thanks for the thought tho
