FCP scratch not see drive
Posted by Ralph Conradt on August 27, 2009 at 10:20 pmUpon launch scratch disk dialogue box does not show Sonnet Jive internal drives. Sees external drives and main drive with all apps. I assume naving to drive and checking boxes. Call me a frustrated AVid, Premiere and Media 100 pilot.

The four drives in a Sonnet Jive surely must run off of a controller card, as there clearly are not enough SATA connectors on the mainboard of a Mac to run four SATA drives. So, a cursory analysis would indicate that your SATA controller card has for one reason or another ceased to operate. I would suggest that you try contacting the manufacturer of said card for tech support or bring your computer into a store that services Macs, as frustrated AVid, Premiere and Media 100 pilots do not typically deal well with these situations.
Hope this helps,

August 28, 2009 at 8:35 pmYour FCP preferences are stored globally for the app, they are not stored by project like they should be, or like you are probably used to. So, depending upon your settings for opening new projects, you may find that you need to set your scratch disk location every time you start a new project. I suggest that you get Preference Manager form Digital Rebellion, which allows one to store several different sets of preferences that can be called up before opening a new project, or before opening an existing project that may have particular settings. In your case, you can store prefs that call up your Sonnet thing.
Not sure this helps, but I had to decipher your shorthand and I don’t always do that perfectly.

August 29, 2009 at 5:15 amthanks david. I have no problem with navigating to the Jive drives. Just thought I might be doing something wrong. or causing problems down the road. I am a little concerned right now cause I am recapturing media to a different drive and when I go to the drive after I do a batch capture, only about half the icons are QT icons., The balance are the litle icons that look like pieces of paper wit the right hand corner turned down which has always to me meant there is nothing there yet the files are the correct size. ANy thoughts?

August 29, 2009 at 5:37 amAre you drives formatted as Mac Extended? It sounds to me as if they might be FAT32, which have a 4Gb file size limitation.
