Well Graham, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
It’s not less accurate than my calculator. It’s actually better than I expected.
It displays everything I wanted Vegas to display:
Time
Percentage
Current/Total Frames
FPS/FPS Average
Current File Output Size/Estimated.
Data Rate
I just noticed that the output stats are blank when using MainConcept, for some reason.
Switching to SonyAVC brings the output stats back.
I was actually comparing rendering speeds cause I have loads of videos waiting to get rendered.
I also installed Window 7 on one of the machines to see what speeds can be achieved when using CUDA.
I’m going to test OpenCL later but CUDA is fast.
My test results show that it’s ~4 times faster than CPU when using MainConcept. The card is a very old 9800 GTX.
I was more surprised when I started using SonyAVC. Sony AVC (CPU Rendering) seems to be 8 times faster than MainConcept CPU rendering and twice as fast as MainConcept CUDA. – And I though CUDA was fast…
That’s when I stopped and scratched my head for a minute. SonyAVC got me confused, how can it be so fast? Is doing a lousy job? Well, `it’s not. The output file size is pretty much the same (700Mb.)
I can only tell the difference between the two when using a large +40 inch screen. SonyAVC at 16-26Mbps seems to be more blocky, especially when looking at reflections. However, the both look the same, when using a smaller FullHD screen (24″.)
Is the SonyAVC newer, more optimized, improved over time and better overall?
I also wanted to see how Adobe was handling these tasks but…
My rusty old CS3 Premier couldn’t handle it. The rendering times were 4 times slower than the slowest MainConcept CPU Rendering in Vegas. It was only utilizing 2 CPU threads and crashed every now and then.
