Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. I think I really need to work in ProRes for any project from now on.

I’d have to say that FCP is not the best program for scaling and moving clips; editing yes, but anything else, I’ll gladly take it to AfterFX.

MPEG Streamclip has solved my problem. It converted my 576×324 video to 1280×720 (HDTV 720p) without any noticeable issues. And it’s a free program, unbelievable!

Even after I convert it to ProRes, it still has these settings:

Frame Size: 576×324
Aspect Ratio: Custom (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Field Dominance: None
Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)

.. and it’s still being weird about rendering every 5 seconds.

I’m still lost; even if I do convert it, FCP will still require me to re-render if I move it at all. And, what if I want to convert the odd dimensions into smaller dimensions and not preset dimensions?? I wish FCP was more lax on accepting files. I’m not big on the render every 5 seconds thing.

Okay, I got it working again. So, I was working with H264, which wasn’t going to work.

And I changed the odd dimensions to 1440 x 1080 and the timeline is green again, and I can move and scale the clip with no problems.

Hey, thanks for the quick replies.

Okay, so H264 is a no go for editing. I tried bringing in another video file. The settings are as follows:

Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
Frame Size: 1620 x 1080
Compressor: HDV 1080i60
Data Rate: 3.2mb/sec
Pixel Aspect: Square

Sequence Settings:

Frame Size: 1620 x 1080
Aspect Ratio: Custom (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: HDV 1080i60

… and it is still requiring me to render if I move or scale the clip.

For the video, the settings are as follows:

Format: Quicktime
Vid Rate: 23.98 fps
Frame Size: 960 x 720
Compressor: H.264
Pixel Aspect: HD (960×720)

Now for the Sequence Settings:

Frame Size: 960×720
Aspect Ratio: HD (960 x 720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960×720)
Editing Timebase: 23.98
Compressor: H.264
