    Hi Shane,

This is for commercial post, so it’s important that the look is as close to the offline as possible. Out of Final Cut this isn’t a problem. I’d like to get as close to the look we have in the offline as possible.

The usual workflow is Same as Source, then into Episode.

I used to be a Sorenson user, and I found no difference with Sorenson. It’s still dark if it’s coming from same as source, but as a QT Ref it obviously made a difference. We don’t have Sorenson here because these are old licenses that have been upgraded several times (dongles,) so I don’t think we get Squeeze.

I’ve got Squeeze. Can compressor do some things Squeeze doesn’t?

I do notice it’s much more common out in the field with FCP places.

Why doesn’t AVID include pro res?

I always found it weird as well. I’ll probably have to follow what some others have done and waste precious space on my SSD with FCP or something like that.

I’ve tried that before. You get a message saying “Pro Apps QT codecs can’t be installed…No qualifying copies of FCP, Motion or Compressor were found.”

I abbreviated but yeah, you need apple software.

What I’ve never been clear on is that I don’t have APR despite being on a mac. I’ve heard a lot of people download a trial version of compressor or FCPx to get them.

I don’t have Sorenson Pro, otherwise I could just make the dailies there. I do have a thunderbolt raid, so the other option is just cutting it natively which I don’t normally do.

I agree it would be ideal to keep the same flavor throughout. Will that be possible if I just get some apple software with the pro res codecs?

The single best thing you can do for AVID I feel is the SSD. At least for my offline work, it’s the single thing I’ve seen make the most difference. But, I don’t online, I don’t do heavy effects.

Going same as source than out through squeeze would actually be a lot faster than doing it out of avid.

Do you ever inadvertently slip something? If the clip is selected in your timeline and you hit “,/<" or "./>” you could be nudging it.
