November 26, 2013 at 6:03 pmThanks. Do you have Avid running on a laptop? I want to get a testimonial. We have MC6 is on a MacBook Pro at work, it exceeds Avid’s recommended specs, but is a bit slow.

November 26, 2013 at 6:37 pmI am currently running Avid MC 7.0.2 on a 2012 MacBook Pro, non-retina, 15″ machine. It has 16GB of RAM and an SSD hard drive. It is running CIRCLES around my 2008 MacPro. It is fast and reliable.

November 26, 2013 at 6:50 pmThe single best thing you can do for AVID I feel is the SSD. At least for my offline work, it’s the single thing I’ve seen make the most difference. But, I don’t online, I don’t do heavy effects.

November 26, 2013 at 7:17 pmI run Avid 6.5.3 on a 17″ Macbook Pro, i7 Quad Core 2.3Ghz with 16GB. Like Shane said, it’s a tank, but the two biggest variables will be your boot drive and your media drives. I don’t use an SSD, and it’s just fine. As for storage, I use a Lacie Big5 Thunderbolt and it was great.

November 27, 2013 at 8:23 pmHi Shane,
I’m sorry, this is a diff. question (I’m new to Creative Cow and don’t know the right way to use it yet), but I saw you have a 2008 MacPro, as do I (there probably aren’t that many of us left!). My Nvidia card just died, and I don’t know what to replace it with (what is the best card that will work on a 5 year old MacPro?). Can you tell me what you have? Or do you know where I can get this info?thank you!

November 27, 2013 at 9:58 pmI recently had the original video card in my 2008 Octocore Mac tower die. Micro Center still had in stock an ATI Radeon HD 5770 for a very reasonable price. About $200 I believe. Hope this helps.
