Nick, thanks so much, this did the trick!!
I can’t figure out how the TC got screwed up , but I’m pretty sure it has something to do with some of the audio being recorded at 44.1K and some at 48K. Even though I’m not using any of the audio in my final edit, the audio settings on the two files that were giving me the problem were originally recorded at 44.1, but the settings in FCP are at 48K. So I’m guessing keeping everything consistent at 48K from start to finish might avoid this issue. Thanks everyone for your input!

Nick, can you explain exactly how i wold reset the timecode for all my clips? What does “batch export the clips” mean?
Where in the process do i modify the timecode? Do i select them all and then modify? Forgive me but i’m not too familiar with this. The clips all have separate timecode, they were not synced with one TC source. They were all imported separately and then I just put in IN points on all the separate clips when I set up my Multiclip.

If you mean restarting, yes. Also all files are converted to Prores 422 before importing. Any other steps I should be taking?

I always convert everything to ProRes422 before editing. I learned the hard way the FCP7 hates H264.

Another question: if I download the free trial for FCPX and then decide i want to stick with FCP7 can i go back to it or will it uninstall?

Thanks for this, what would be the best fix? FCP X?
Or is there any work around for OS 10.10 with FCP 7?

Thanks for all of your feedback. This is super helpful! I think I’m going to go with the VZ-Pro L because it seems more sturdy and has a variable speed knob.

Oh OK, I just used the tiny rocker on top and in fact it is nice and slow. But I need to be able to get that slow zoom from a zoom remote. Does your remote re-create that slow speed? Mine comes nowhere close. Way too fast and jumpy. i’m willing to spend good money to get a remote that will do this, I make living shooting events on a tripod.

Thanks for this response. I have my settings exactly like you said and the zoom is still way too fast and too touchy. Even when i use the manual zoom rocker on the camera and try to go super slow, it’s too fast. Maybe i will try the Libec though it seems pretty similar to the Varizoom I’m currently using. Maybe this is just a limitation of the NX5U?
