ok apparently I have to re-open this case…

I was able to make a dvd from the footage of the Panasonic camera noted above.

then I tried to use “MPEG Streamclip (1.9)” to try to convert the dvd to a useable format for FCP.

Tried several different MPEG settings but the video turned out jumpy, grainy, and 1/4 size on sone settings as well.

has anyone encountered these problems with MPEG Streamclip 1.9?

also, I have a home camera (a tape camera) Sony DCR-HC52. this camera has a line in option but I just found out that the cable to do this with is optional (of course)

so I will try to buy this cable (they call it “I Link”) They claim the camcorder will record from another device. I was hoping I would be able to play from the DVD recorder out to the mini dv tape. this would solve everything but Im not sure that the ILink cable, ends in AV — I think the other end might be ILink format as well, in which case, we would be needing two Ilinkable devices.

which brings us back to …. does anyone know anything about MPEG Streamclip?

someone on the Apple forum also mentioned this but I could not find “Log & Transfer” — only Log & Capture or Batch Capture.

I have FCP 5. is the transfer option only on the latest version maybe?

anyhow, I forgot I have simple dvd recorder – so what Im doing is, using the av output to the dvd recorder. at least then it will be on dvd

I hate to date myself, but before the digital age, there were only 2 or 3 formats 8m (+ hi8 and super8) 16m and 35m. this standard kept for like 50 years in the movie business – long enough for editors to master their craft.

Now they change formats to create functional obsolescants every few months!

    nothing wrong with dv tape!

    Hi Bruce

I found using a really big font helps cause the talent is not “reading across the screen”

play with the speed too. if the letters are really big, you need to go a bit faster.

also, of course, the further away the talent is, the less eye movement is detected. of course that means big letters or talent with good eyes ;~)

I have Motion and Shake. I find Shake hard to use. I have toutorials on both but neither seem to show this effect.

do you know of any toutorials on this effect in either Motion or Shake?

    thanks,

    best, Phil
