  • That’s what I did after your recipe when I may quote you:

    “if you want the waves to move two wavelengths over the length of the timeline (for my example I’m thinking of the default NTSC 30fps and 91 frames in the timeline) you enter 2*30/91*2*pi into the Frequency box and hit return and let it calculate…”

    That’s what I did there.

    I still don’t really get it. Seems to be too complicated thought either of me or the devs.

    thanks a lot for your patience but I think I don’t achieve a loop – even with your detailed instruction.

    So this is with those parameters:

    So for the array above with 4 waves
    – radius – 250
    – copies – 180
    – amplitude – 80
    – Frequency – 0
    – Array Frequency – 4

  • Well, that’s not the problem. I have 2 machines where it works quite well – I want to find out why it doesn’t on the other machines. Too point my problem into the right direction again…

  • Not possible since I first would have to convert it to ProRes which is not really possible without two straight days of work ONLY for the conversion – that time is better invested in cutting in Vegas, I guess…

    What a strange industry … ah, wait it’s a Sony. No further questions.

  • Unfortunately it’s too much footage… Otherwise I’m fully on your side.

    Plus the big, big problem that it’s almost impossible for me (I didn’t mention those MTS have two streams inside – left+right eye – for stereoscopic 3D) to extract the streams… since the software from Sony won’t install without the camera being attached to the PC obviously. And then it’s only a PC software so I’d end up in creating hundreds of terrabytes of data (ok, I exaggerated a bit there .. but you get my point – 20 hours of footage *2 because of the two eyes and then uncompressed avi as ‘intermediate’ codec / container and then into prores – that’d be like 3 days straight work only for getting it into the right format to work with. And …. actually in 3 days I need some results rather than only to be starting.

  • I’d like to understand all that parameters actually.

    Actually I changed some parameters in my scene to make it easier:

    FPS: 32, Frames: 128, so that 4 waves * 32 = 128; so any amount of waves that can be divided by 4 are good.

    Can you explain to me what the array function is? I still don’t get the point somehow… how would I achieve 4 waves (a wave is a full sine wave, right? (=2*PI))

  • Well, I want to understand it 😉 So it doesn’t matter… I just want all objects to be in the same position on frame 127 as in frame 0 – in this case I thought 10 full sine waves, yes…

  • Thanks for your answer – but I guess I have plenty to learn. I am well aware of the fact how to loop certain parameters over time – I know this formular from after effects – but in this case I absolutely don’t understand how I could use this formular correctly – my parameters look like this:

    If I wanted to animate the array manually, I’d use your formular – but in this case, if I understand it correctly, that dialog with all the parameters is there to ‘make the math’ for me, right? …anyways I am a bit confused now 😛 Maybe you could point me into the right direction =)

    Thanks a lot for your help. I know about the advantages of your Software from the videos on your website – it seems like there’s really nothing that could be done wrong – plug&play – which I really like, personally.

    But on the other hand what I find really important is that the workstations don’t need to be online all the time to reshare the Storage. So this brings me to the other solution which is in fact also cheaper right now.

    What I thought, would be a good idea is to buy a FC switch (I found a cheap one (Brocade 200E 16-Port 4Gbps Fibre Channel Switch OEM: https://cgi.ebay.de/Brocade-200E-16-Port-4Gbps-Fibre-Channel-Switch-OEM_W0QQitemZ270654369170QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=170336296301&rvr_id=170336296301&cguid=76c4b28f12b0a0aa17211891ffe3136d) for under 1000€.

    Now there is still a question about the topology:
    How many FC-HBAs do I need it to have two workstations connected?
    How many FC-HBAs does the Metadata-Fileserver need – one enough? Are they capable to send/receive (full duplex) at the same time? Must be, right?

    As Metdata-Fileserver I guess it’d be the easiest way to use a software like FreeNAS (or the successor OpenMediaVault which is hopefully released soon), right? Which would also be a plug&play-solution.
