Hi Jeff, no worries on any of this! I’m grateful for your insights and experience with this stuff. You’re right that Photoshop does change the pixel size when you change/downgrade the resolution, but it’s no problem because you can upgrade the pixel size once you’ve changed the resolution with no issues. That’s what I did with this project. The images started out as 600 dpi and 5000+ pixel size. I first changed the resolution to 72 dpi, then changed the pixel size to double my HD size so that I could zoom in on the images in the Premiere Pro project. It worked perfectly.

Thank you for your follow-up on this. You were correct on every aspect.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Yes, yes, you’re right. I did lower the pixel size. Thanks again.

Thanks…I realized that the dpi was too high. Changed it to 72 and all is well. Thanks again!

No, I’m not using motion blur on any of these layers. Even on the stills they are blurry in motion, but look great if you pause the QT.

    Hey Stephan,

You are an amazing wealth of knowledge…thanks so much! A friend with a 2009 Mac Pro did purchase the GTX 980 and is very happy with it; he had to power from both ports, but is a bit concerned about how hot it might get in summer weather.

I’m leaning towards the same card he bought, but getting the firmware replaced by the guy in LA. I’m HD at the moment, but moving into 4K soon, so this seems to be a good approach.

I’ll also look into upgrading the CPU per your advice…I might be able to handle the DIY stuff to a certain extent. (Mine is, indeed, the Mac Pro 5,1.) Both Premiere and Media Composer will probably run better if I upgrade.

Thanks, again, so much for your help!
    Peter

John, Sorry for the tardy response to your advice. Really great information, and I’m definitely going to look into adding the PCI card drive to my system. Sounds like that will work really well with my current projects and working with 2K – 6K stuff down the road, too. thanks for all of the insights! Peter

Good advice all around John. I have Time Machine backups, so I can revert back if necessary. It is good to hear that your older Macs work fine with Yosemite. Thanks for the advice.
