    He said it. Sep sound.
I too have found that you have to pad the levels into still cameras way down to kep the right side of distortion. And Ive also found that the noise floor on their recordings is very poor too. Build those 2 points in with the fact that even coming into view of a 3.5mm jack makes me feel ill – and thats that. Sep sound

I used Izotope RX in de clipping mode. Preset “severe analogue distortion” and set threshold to 24.1. A little make up gain, a little bass roll off eq and a little hf increase to crispen it up a touch.
Not brilliant i know – but its pretty broken. Oh and i only processed the right channel. Id throw away the left completely unless someone pops up split mic on that side later that ive not been sent.

    Cheers and good luck

Many big studios leave the mixing desks on 24 hours as the surge that kicks them when powering on can be costly. Also constant warming then cooling is rarely good for computer based kit. Im not familiar with that desk, but unless its a “big boy” then I cant think it will matter either way. New PSU would probably be buttons if it dies.

What you have described is what mixing is all about, choosing the best balance of the available audio tracks for any given shot.

When you cook a cake, you dont necessarily put ALL your flour, water, eggs and other ingredients into the mixing bowl!. Its the same for audio. Enjoy experimenting with different balances for different shots and watch your programme come to life.

    HI.
If the sound is a glass smash, then it doesnt really travel, but is spotted in the stereo field.
id split it off, repair the underlying atmos bed that now has a hole, and re position the smash to suit on a new track. This also gives you a great opportunity to record or use a significantly better effect than the one that will have been recorded live.(I suspect!)

I recorded some footage. There was a single mic, plugged to a single XLR input but set to record on both channels.
So when I import into final cut, I get the audio as stereo.

    1. Now this isn’t real stereo right? Its just the single mono recorded on two channels?

    A. Correct.Its Called Dual mono

    2. If I split the stereo pair into 2 mono tracks and set one to left and the other to right, it should be the same?
    A correct

    3. And if i just put a single mono track but set the pan to 0, that is the same effect?
Correct (and more desirable. fewer tracks = less editing, less risk of phase issues creeping in.)
You will find the audio will drop by 3db on a centre pan of this mono signal, so a +3db gain to make it up will be applied.
