  • mixer power always on (will it damage?)

    Hi,

I am wondering if it’s ok to leave a mixer powered on all the time? Will this damage the mixer?

The mixer is a Sure M367.

We have the mixer in a permanent recording station in a conference control room.
The room is air conditioned to avoid overheating.

Can we leave it on always (and maybe power off for weekends)?

I look forward to your input.

    Thanks so much.

Hello David and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

The M367 is a tough old box. You should be OK if it has enough breathing room. Maybe put a surge protector in front of it.

Many big studios leave the mixing desks on 24 hours as the surge that kicks them when powering on can be costly. Also constant warming then cooling is rarely good for computer based kit. Im not familiar with that desk, but unless its a “big boy” then I cant think it will matter either way. New PSU would probably be buttons if it dies.

Thank you very much Ty and Peter!

We will leave the unit on with a surge protector.

Thank you so much for the fast response.

Nope. Not much of a “big boy.”

    Quite the opposite.

Also doubt that it’s power supply really needs a surge protector.
(But, of course, it can never HURT to have one…
might help in the case of lightning on the power line.)

That Shure (and many other similar models in that line) is a very rugged and time-proven box.
Tens of thousands in use around the world, around the clock, for years and years.
