If you record audio to the camera AND another recorder, unless theyre genlocked to the same SPG or REF then when you import and have to sync 1 against the other, there will (because NLEs only offer a crude +/- 1 frame edit) be no way of EXACTLY syncing. This will mean there will be either a perceptable delay 1 to the other OR if there isnt then a phase mismatch has to be a real worry. Keep your ears on it in MONO.

1) Spotify quality is pretty good. i did an AB listening test in the studio against a purchased cd of a track and found prescious little difference audibly, although the level wasnt as hot.
If youre happy to even mention the word Mp3 which is by definition, a seriously compressed lossy format, the I d not be worrying about it.
BUT if you do record off the spotify stream, dont save it as an mp3 for heavens sake. Uncompressed wav or aiff!2) Personally I can overook the copyright issues you mention, but I suspect that the artists/ record companies and their lawers may not be so understanding. Just be aware that if you infringe the copyright, and THEN get caught, youll have to pay whatever they ask for in fees, not a retail cost of the cd or license fee. I know this wont make you go legal, but you need to be aware.

Can you post the audio up somewhere and we can do it, then give it back. A sort of competition!

Pro tool is indeed an awesome proposition. it very much depends on where you want or need to take it!

Another vote for Pro Tools here, but Id point out that to do the audio properly, you must be able to export from FCP and import into PT an OMF. This is the extra cost Ty mentioned, but it is the “key” to the pro world of tv post.

There is a saying. You get what you deserve and deserve what you get. By this I mean that if your clients wont pay for shooting in a proper sound filming studio, where acoustics have had many £1000’s of design, then they will get an inferior product, and the audio may well be the most apparent of these.
The only solution (short of covering all the warehouse walls and ceiling in a large amount of acoustic dampening material, and the use of the mic and micing techniques already mentioned) is to ADR later.
Thatll send a shiver down the back of any production accountant – but who cares about them!

Hi John. Your post interested me. Ive only ever used isdn for tc control of a picture elsewhere using 2 audiofiles years ago, and the pictures were on vtrs with matching tc bothe ends.
Coule you elaborate (as complicated as you like) on the method using your pro tools as i have the same sync io and pt hd system as you, using isdn as the tc transferrer. How do you arrange the slaving etc etc.
I know a few people have worked on an IP based system of pictue contol via google, but ive not heard its a go yet.

To add, I think that the looping facilities within newer pro tools have mad a big difference, allowing multiple recordings of a cue, and then instant flipping and editing between them.
