    Try the AnalogWay Pulse 2
It has similiar function to the imagepro but at a lower cost point

Always interesting to see other people’s workflow.
    Mine is slightly different.
I do Firewire800 transfers onsite in a revolving drive situation to get content off of the AJA drive. I generally transfer to OWC Drives setup as Raid 5 for a good drive backup to prevent failure.

Then I switch over to a PC with a multi-esata card on it to do transfer out to multiple backup and for file distribution (one to client, one for storage, one to post company, etc)

I find that doing the final transfer with esata makes a huge difference.

I’ve heard that some onsite vendors have actually modified their AJA drives to have esata or sata direct out and then they can go direct to their main drive and eliminate one of the transfers.

I’ve only ever had luck with line-of-sight equipment such as microwave. But that doesnt seem like it would work for your application.
I would be nervous about RF HD transmission in a long term use setting.

The max cable length you want to run with HD-SDI is 100m or approx 330′
Everytime you add a connection with any cable you’re adding resistance and you increase the potential for a problem.
If this were a critical application i would try to get a longer cable OR i would put a DA at one of your connection points. Something like this:

If its not a critical application i say set it up and see how it works for you. There’s a lot of variables involved so you might be fine.

First, you say that you shot the video in HD but then put it on DVD and ran BNC cable (which is all standard def equipment). If your goal is to project it as shot then you need to make sure the entire signal path is HD.

For the playback device i would recomend you check out Playback Pro Plus – the Plus version allows for sync playback between machines.

Is the computer doing anything else for you? Recording? Storing? Processing?
Or are you really just needing to send direct camera feeds to a different location?
I would avoid using cat5 encoders in a permanent install because IT guys tend to repatch cat5 assuming its data and not a video link.
I would look at DVI fiber link connections. Running fiber is fairly inexpensive and the encoders/decoders are a one time purchase.
    Are you also transmitting audio?
    Are you HD or SD?

  • Yes, be very concerned.
I’ve had HDCP issues with the Apple TV (was using it to connect an ipad wireless).
I havent found Apple TV to be very consistent when connected to various HDCP compliant devices so I would test your exact scenario in advance. On a recent live event project our HDCP issue was actually caused by a DVI router that was not HDCP compliant.
Make sure that your test uses exactly the same setup as you’ll for show – exactly the same equipment even if possible to avoid firmware differences.

    good luck!

  • Mike,
Not sure if you’re looking to see corporate shows, concerts, live television, etc. There’s certainly plenty of venues to see various setups. Do you have a trip already scheduled to a particular city?
Also, what vendors do you work with on the tours you currently work with? Sometimes vendors can get you into other shows to see their systems and those are usually better than any public area you’ll see.
