Thanks Bob for the advice.
The iMac will have 32 gigs of ram and i like the idea of a separate 250GB SSD for the Media cache.
My only concern at the moment is the graphics card – GTX 780M 4GB – is not currently Adobe supported but i could be wrong.
I am sure it will be a system perfect for my needs.

My personal feeling on this – explain to them that it is not in their or your best interests to be using copyrighted material due to the ramifications that could happen. If they don’t listen and insist then thank them for the opportunity and walk.
You are better off without clients like that in my opinion! -

I wonder if you could sit down with your head of department and talk through with him/her what is currently achievable with the gear you have at your disposable. Then tell them about your vision of the great videos you could create if you had a decent camera, lighting kit, audio equipment etc and then suggest that you hire the kit for say a week and create some videos for them.
Once they see the different in quality and how good the senior management look that might just sway them to invest.

Great information Mads, that is definitely going into my “weapons for obtaining payment” folder. Also, i can’t stipulate enough a rock solid contract at the start of the project signed by all parties.

Hi Tom, I have done some work in the past for Councils in the Midlands of the UK and my invoices specified 30 days and they paid within those 30 days no problem. That was however a few years ago. With all the budget cutting and public sector job cuts happening all over the UK at the moment it could simply be that the department you sent your invoice to has changed personnel and had become lost in the system. A friendly email might just get the ball rolling again.

Wow, powerful stuff and the time you will save using this plug-in definitely justifies the price. Going to download the trial later and have a play. Thanks for sharing.

February 21, 2013 at 11:38 am in reply to: Is the Rode Video Mic a good shotgun mic or not?I agree with Sareesh, there are so many shotgun mics on the market that finding one that will suit your purposes will be a matter of going to your local store and trying a few. Or, spend a weekend hiring a couple of different ones, sennheiser, Rode, Audio-Technica etc. I personally found the Rode NTG-3 was best suited to my needs. Coupled with the Rode Blimp it is a great sounding shotgun mic that handles field recording very well.

Hi, If you have had a good working relationship with this client and they ask for all the source material i would tell them that you would be willing to do his for them but due to the length of time it will take to transfer it (months) then you will have to bill them for it. Mention the huge discounts you have already given them and that you would like to continue working with each other in the future.

February 21, 2013 at 11:15 am in reply to: Dslr Camera and lens good for shooting outdoor golf eventsHi Chad, there are lots of great point here. However, instead of buying have you thought about renting the gear to see what suits best. Here in the UK you could hire a Canon 7d or 5d with a few different lenses, tripod, stabiliser, audio recorder and microphone etc etc for a quarter of that $4000 you have. Then put any money you might be making from your golf shoot to the rest of the $4000 you have left after hiring and buy your gear. Or just rent again on the next shoot and try a different camera/lenses if the first lot didn’t suit.
