Sounds like you are continually rasterizing the text layer. When you are rasteriing the text and the pre comp…it will only enable the light from the main comp. all pre comp lights get voided… Try deselecting rasterize for that layer and see if that helps. Easy way to test it is (on a Mac) click on the composition window . Press shift+command+option+n. It opens a new comp window that’s locked. Open your precomp and you can now see both comps…
