If my interpretation to your post is correct, it is not possible to import let alone edit hdv video footage in camtasia studio. The frame size isn’t the problem.

Hi all,

I know this thread is a couple of months old but rather than writing up a new post, I’d like to continue with this one as i have recently come across the same issues.

I am working on a project for a client for online web delivery via flv. The jist of the project – I have filmed a presenter giving a seminar on a sony HVRA1E in hdv mode in parallel to using camtasia studio to capture his on screen notes (word & pdf notes imported into windows journal) – Imported both into premiere pro cs3, edited and synchronised both video & audio with screen capture cutting back and forth from presenter to screen capture – output settings – (512 x 288, 1,000kbps on2vp6 codec)using adobe media encoder from the timeline.

The problem – the cuts showing the presenter appears to be of pristine quality however the camtasia screen recording notes are unreadable. they appear severely pixelated and this is a major concern as around 70% of the video edit focuses on the camtasia studio screen recordings. I have experimented with bigger frame sizes and higher encoding bitrates but it still makes no difference. The Avi file exported from within camtasia is uncompressed and comes to 44gigs (1 hour)and plays back (windows media player) with the finest detail as one would expect. Also from within cs3 itself during editing the text appears relatively clear and readabale. the only possible cause i can think of is that the uncompressed camtasia avi file export is at a custom frame size of 1440 x 1080 and frame rate of 10fps matching cs3 project settings of 1440 x 1080 @ 25fps except for the (10fps)

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your input. I am unsure how the client viewed the burnt dvd i.e on pc or using standalone dvd player.

Your comments regarding the blank dvd media is most interesting. I use verbaten dvd -r blanks. what are the differences between “+r” and “-r” other than the fact that one writes from the outside in and the other, inside out. what brand/make discs would you recommend?

Asking the client to come view the project on my system is not really an option. I am not a business per say, just a one man average joe starting out. I’m not opened to having strangers in my home with all due respect to the client.
