    scaling takes quite a bit of extra processing, that’s what’s up.

    as ricardo stated, check your memory usage for adobe applications.
    alternatively, when using windows you can adjust priority on the fly in the task manager. sometimes i do this when i’m rendering but want to have some music playing or keep working. that way by default it uses full horsepower unless i specifically need to do something else. is there something similar in osx?

    i’m not 100% sure whether or not nested sequences take longer to render per se. it would seem silly, but it could add an extra rendering step, especially if you had effects on the original sequence and then more on the nested sequence. safe bet would be to place all effects on the nested sequence (or don’t nest at all), but anyone know for sure how premiere handles this on export?
