My first choice is Sachtler then I’d look into Cartoni. I’ve used manfrotto and Vinten tripods and after using the others have been underwhelmed. Never used an O’connor though.
My two cents.

Hi again Pasi,
actually I made a bootable Carbon copy of the macbook onto a FW drive as discussed and it seems to have all gone well. I plugged the drive into a MacPro station at work and When I open programs such as itunes the playlists are all good and I’ve checked folders and the data is still there. Even Microsoft word in office X remembers recent documents and such.
One problem though – when I open Entourage (also in office x) which my daughter has been using for emails it hasn’t retained any email info at all. Inbox empty, sents empty, drafts empty – everything empty. It behaves like it’s never been opened and used before.
Any ideas how I can relink this data? I’m sure it’ll be in the clone somewhere because the data count is exactly the same as the existing machine. The email data is of particular value so I’d really like to make especially sure the entourage data is there and working on the clone before I continue trying to upgrade the macbook.
Which has got me thinking – some more questions…
If I do a clean install of the OS I’m guessing I’ll get an option to carry over the data, settings etc from the FW clone – is this correct?
Or do I just reload the OS (probably stick with 10.5) right over the top and just rely on the clone for a backup if needed?
Thanks again for your help with this.

January 7, 2010 at 8:30 am in reply to: FINAL CUT… SNOW LEOPARD and going back to LEOPARDHi RIch. I’m looking at doing this also. How did this upgrade path go for you?
I’m looking to use CCC to create a bootable replication onto a FWDrive…
Tell me, did you then erase (using apples disk utility?) your home drive and do a totally clean reinstall of everything OS, FCP suite etc, etc?
That seems to be best practice. And if there is an issue with the new set up, what would you do then?
How do you get the CCC copy back onto your home drive if you decide not to upgrade to SL? Or do you just reinstal the older OS and reinstall FCP etc?
Any tip tricks and comments most welcome?

Does anybody have a good pp or tips regarding settings for Handheld fly on the wall styled night shooting? Think COPS style reality TV with EX3/1s.
Will have an on-board light and a few lights to pop up when possible but apart from that I’ll be using (un) available light.

Hi John,
If you have the resources you could try shooting the actor in a studio in front of a green screen. That would make it way easier to change your BGs and eliminate the need to match your shots between locations. The clever bit will be changing the lighting from low light interior lighting to daylight – you could try doing this with physical lighting or lit for a good key and animating the grade it to create the lighting transition in AE.
Of course your sound mix will help immensely with pulling off this effect.

Hi Matt,
I might be wrong about this but I think multi-pass encoding has only been available since the very latest release of QT Pro.
If you don’t have it, this might be why you haven’t noticed it.

November 16, 2009 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Help please M100 not booting ‘hardware not installed’ warningBrilliant. Thanks Matthew, it’s working again.
I also worked out why I couldn’t see the footage during acquiring. The Audio settings were set incorrectly.

Thanks for your reply Michael,
so if I copy the BPAV folders to a drive in the field, will the sony transfer software read the data/folders as clips later on? Can you load the BPAV folder as clips in the clip browser? How does that work?
Or do you have to find the data in the folders and import into M100 as you do with other files.
Cheers
