Thanks for that flow. I have a few more questions.
It heavily depends on what you want to do as your master
I’m in an awkward position in terms of the Master. We’re gearing up to shoot an indie feature and we’re jumping through the usual funding hoops for finance but we’re going to shoot it regardless. So it might be sometime before we get support to do a film out – if ever. So, that said what’s the best way to set up post for both potential outcomes and still get a quality result if it ends up being mastered back film?
We did do a film out in the end, therefore we did a 2k DPX workflow, which unfortunately is not really easy to do with Media 100
I guess this was a cinema commercial right? What were the issues with the 2k DPX wprkflow? Why isn’t it easy and what was your work around?
…and e.g. do your grading in Apple Color (which can handle DPX 2k log sequences well (at least more or less)).
What do you mean by “more or less”?
Hey thanks heaps for your input with this Floh. I’m really keen to cut this myself on M100 if it’s possible. But others involved are pushing pretty hard to go the Avid/FCP way.

Deleted the project and copied it across again. Fixed it. Don’t why, but I’m good to go.

Hi Floh
I could be being slow here…
okay so just to clarify. I’m running M10011.5 HDe on a dual boot (w/FCP) G5 quad machine with a AJA kona 3 card. Am I able to download and pay on-line for a 12.5 (HDe?) upgrade that’ll work making use of the hardware not just software only producer version?
Hm, because if this is the case this is not at all clear on the M100 site. Could someone post a link to this if it’s different download to the producer trial link?
Thing is, I downloaded a trial version of 12.5 producer software only onto my G4 Powerbook and messed with a current project. it was one that I started on the 11.5 HDe suite on the G5. Now I’ve taken the project back to the G5 and it won’t let me open some of the program files presumably because I made changes in 12.5 – arrgh!! silly me.

Hey Jim
I’m pretty sure F4M does the WMV encode for Squeeze. The write up on the Sorenson Squeeze site says the WMV Flip 4 Mac encoder comes with the squeeze mac package. So it seems F4M does the encode for WMV anyhow. Or am I missing something here?
Because if Bob just wants to do a bit of WMV encoding on his mac, F4M would be a cheaper way to go rather than to buy the whole os Squeeze just to get F4M to do this task for him – but as I say I could be missing something about this package and the way it works.

but I have another question – I think I might be being a bit dumb here…
so okay. I clone the complete drive (which is actually the one that has the M100Hde on it) and copy it over to the other boot drive…
But what happens to all the stuff on the other drive (the one I just copied to with the FCP suite on it along with some other goodies on it). Also I guess I’ll have to uninstal the M100 software from that side also right?
Sorry I used to have a geek that did all this stuff for me.

When you say clone. Do you mean just copy the already registered and up and running adobe ‘applications’ folders into the applications folder on the other boot drive?
Michael – I’m know expert with this but as far as I know – having some of programs running from one drive and some from another can cause problems if you want to be able to share resources and work seamlessly between different programs in a single session. Especially if they’re programs which are designed to talk to each other.

February 7, 2008 at 9:05 pm in reply to: M100,FCP dual boot with Adobe suite. Advice please.thanks for that Kieran. I might do that.
But I was wondering, when you load your Adobe products on both sides what happens with free download updates?
Will it update on both sides? Presumably only the side you choose to register will have the benefits of any of the free updates? Or can you register both sides somehow?

Yup, happens on my suite as well – it’s really annoying. Glad someone has bought it up.

Hi Kieran
thanks heaps for your reply. What you’re saying makes sense to me. I think it probably is the problem.
I can think of a few ways of cropping this, but I’m interested to know more detail about how you do it – when you say you make a caption… do you mean that in Media100 you put a title or composition and put a black band over the video clip?

Interesting thread.
Okay so when you say “off the head” are you recording on the fly to a SDI capable recorder or something? Or playing it back off EX-1 via an SDI out, in post? Either way does this give you 4:2:2?
