Hector, I’ve read so many articles about codecs, and am embarrassed to admit that the subject is still so sketchy to me. When you say “shooters and directors of small/medium projects keep using bad codecs”, I don’t think I understand what my options would be. I shoot video with a Canon T5i, which I know compresses the footage onto the SD card using the H264 codec. When it comes time to edit, I simply dump the card’s footage straight to my Resolve timeline and start cutting away. Are you suggesting that I’d be better off with a different workflow? Or perhaps what I’m doing is about as good as it’s going to get?

Thanks for bearing with me guys, I’m trying to keep up with you.

Thanks. So interesting how many out there are in the ETTR camp. I’ve only just begun my experiments with Cinestyle, but prior to this I’ve always read to err on the side of underexposing (for any profile). Now it’s all about ETTR.

    Anyway, gracias one and all.

Hmmm, what “minimum” dslr camera do you feel would be best served by the Ninja 2? (I’m thinking down the road upgrade)

Is this the correct file? All I’m hearing is a lot of traffic noise, a car door beeping from an open door, and some audio from a radio. Where’s the conversation?

Yeah, a sample would be good. There are some nice noise reduction fx that you can apply, provided there’s enough tone to collect a good noise signature AND the voices aren’t too too buried.

Oh yes Ty, for sure. In the past I’ve sent audio directly into the camera, but I’ve read that the audio processors on DSLR’s aren’t exactly topnotch, or at least not as good as can be achieved with a nice recorder. I also like the idea of an external device that I can control independently and more granularly, rather than simply setting the level on the camera. All of that said, I’ll most likely send the output of my brand spankin’ new Tascam to the camera anyway as a backup just in case!
