do you have the latest updates installed?
try activating “collapse trasformation” for your layers. -
we all know that apple is not capable of giving out updates with proper software coding nor deeper information on what has been fixed than the ever boring headline:
QuickTime 7.6 includes changes that increase reliability, improve compatibility and enhance security. This release is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.
they could write lorem ipsum… it would not make any difference.
i refer to Stu Maschwitz Blog about Quicktime 7.6 and he writes:
Apple released Quicktime 7.6 today, which “includes changes that increase reliability, improve compatibility and enhance security.” Sweet. Undocumentedly, it also changes how Quicktime movies made with the Canon 5D Mark II are decoded—for the better.
Yay! Problem solved, I guess. This is a scary thing for Apple not to document in an update though, because it will radically change the appearance any 5D clips you’re already working with. So update with caution, especially if you’re in the middle of a project.
for him-the better, but Avid has put out warnings on their site NOT to install QT 7.6 in any case.
so, apple is putting undocumented changes into their software. hidden features to suprise us Users?
i think they are letting us betatesting their software over and over again with every release of Final Cut Studio and Quicktime.I HATE apples customer philosophy – in fact there isn’t any. They and their “rumors”…
It’s really time to do something against this policy because WE PAY for their crappy upgrades and betas.
I do not give a damn about their other iCrap.
So Wassup Apple? Take the word PRO out of your applications and sell Final Cut for 79 Dollars, because in a few years i can do the all the same crap editing in iMovie, iLife and whatsoever BS software you’re creating – for the better?
a billion dollar heavy company goofing around with people who earn their daily bread with apple applications?
but please count me out of your silly games. -
FCP is a liitle bit of pussy whenever it comes to file formats and settings.
For instance, if you work with an Uncompressed 8 Bit easy setup in FC your render output codec in AE should be the same. Long Story short: alsways use native FC codecs.good to check: if you work with interlaced footage in FC and you render out motion graphics from AE, take a look in the render settings, usually default is set to “best”, sometimes, but just sometimes you also may check “field rendering”(default is off), it comes in handy whenever you’re using interlaced video together with animation.
inportant is to know interpreting interlaced footage fields OFF before you start compositing in AE.and by the way, rendering you work completely in FC ist a good way to go, also canvas/viewer in FC set to any percentage than 100% wil degrade your preview – means, having a control monitor TV for previewing is crucial for video editing, otherwise you’ll never have control over your final output.

what questionary about 64bit in here!?
read the sysreqs https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/systemreqs/
at the time apple is just bitchin’ around with cutomers and it will still when the don´t turn they minds. As for Snow Leopard, he will hibernate for a longer while because there are not that much idiots who will install it.
if you have some bucks to throw out for AE CS4 on a mac, go for it, but be sure that your apple isn´t a PPC one. Adobe dropped support on that.
if Adobe would had made huge changes with AE as they did with Photoshop, i would pay double for AE.
AE CS4 “new features” are – by all respect to the programmers – a joke. -
depends.
i´ve sneek-peeked after effects on a intel quadcore PC, ATI graphics, with windows vista 64Bit and RAID.
it really impressed me.
i just can tell you that after effects was somehow always running more smoother on a windows machine.don´t run ino the next computer store and by the next gen windows mahine, try it out for yourself first. if you have some friends around your biz, ask them to give you a short introduction.
besides that, imagine what a FAST PC you could buy with all the money for a Intel MacPro.
Personally i don´t give a damn about “chic” and design as far i can fill my fridge with food at the end of the day. -
forget about it.
this Multi-Process thingie is pure BS.
You have to wait till Snow Leopard for 64Bit and then expect just a maximum of 8-12% push of that “vrooooom”.Otherwise switch to Windows Vista 64Bit before you get old.

Hi,
if you´ve updated quicktime player take a look in QT preferences. there´s a checkbox regarding to older codecs.

October 28, 2008 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Rotate Camera without affecting Layer BoundariesThanks Dave, i had some sleep and i hope you red the entire thread carfully and recognized what i have wrote and where my pitfalls are.
i exactly know how the shots for 2001 were accomplished and i know how the physics of a (living) moving (camera) picture work, but i believe that my mind has turned too much into never ending (promised) digital possibilities, this should be my punishment, because now i know where i stuck.
as much i know about digital manipulation I ALSO KNOW that i can make a rotation of my image without using a 3D layer and a camera.
IF i´d never knew, so, i would never have asked for a solution.
it seems that i reached the digital possibilities of camera manipulation. i hoped there is a solution with expressions and i did not hoped for a miracle…
so, wash your hands and stuck your “film or TV skool – advice” somewhere where it does not hurt so much.
best regards,
Paul -

October 28, 2008 at 1:42 am in reply to: Rotate Camera without affecting Layer BoundariesSorry Guys,
i´m still not really “here” due to the lack of sleep i´ve had the last days, so i did not recognized all the replies above.
ok, don´t think i´m crazy and i try to lever the laws of (camera) nature 😉
it´s not easy to describe, i´ll try again.
just besides to mention >>>
# scaling – or moving layer in 3D space = NO
# reducing 720p comp size to DV-PAL Widescreen = NOheres an example from kindergarten.
1.) use a piece of cardboard an cut out a rectangular hole.
2.) place camera inbetween cardboard and object.
3.) rotate camera.imagine now the cardboard is the outside area of the composition panel and the object is the layer inside the comp window.
if i rotate the camera and as the camera rotates you would still just see the obscuring comp panel area and the layer would not show the black (or whatever color set) background BECAUSE it is obscured by the (cardboard) outside area.that´s all what i want to simulate.
if i had a another choice would have shoot it like shown here from 1:35 and especially 2:00
upside down-_-
