The crashing happens when rendering large timelines Or when left alone and auto render is on.
Console tells me we have an error code 3
that vm allocate has failed , cant allocate region
this is really frustrating -
this mysterious crashing continues
strangely it does not leave an Apple crash report box after the crash.
Have trashed prefs to no avail
any ideas?regards

[Anders Haavie] “the intel mac is quite picky about ram config”
I just spoke with the tech who setup our system
seems the RAM pickiness is about maximum performance as opposed to negative performance issues. If there is equal RAM on the 2nd set of risers it can write across the 2
which is great for uncompressed HDPatrick

I have had similar issues and I found it was just a small still file that was causing the whole system to crash.
I could render everything before and after the file no problem .
Identifying the file enabled me to work around it.regards

Walter
the array was bought specifically for this project so it hasnt been erased before and Im hoping fragmentation is at a minimum.
However
there is still 1/3 of the project to capture in ProRes .Im afraid its a case of first time director not being able to make decisions until he sees drafts etc and not wanting to be ruled by technical considerations so is capturing virtually everything and keping it.
I was going to ask for more HD space this week.
As Ass Editor i suppose
I must be more insistent about the process and put foot down on these type of issues because they wont know if I dont tell, right.
Hmm
learning curve.thanks for help
wiill capture to internal drive today untill i max it out too, then get more spaceregards

David
the RAID started off with 3.18Tb free
it now has 63 GB spare
what would you recommend as optimum max capaxity? -
update
when I capture onto the internal 500gb
its all goodwhat are factors that can affect the RAID?

August 14, 2007 at 12:59 am in reply to: applying speed effects causes clip to freeze frameWe are havng the same problem
DualQuad 4gb ram
FCP 601
ProRes Seq mainly HD trying to speed up some DV inserts
We get pinwheels and v slow rendering and then weird still frames.Patrick

i agree 4gb ram is surely sufficient
we have just had an apple tech here on an unrelated issue
i asked him about this problem
he said that fcp type programs heavy rendering buffer into ram and when there is a code problem they overflow into a swapfile which writes to the drive and then it all falls overhave you got the latest fcp update?
i wonder if that solves it
