  • It was 23.5.0 and the project was imported into Resolve 19 with an XML. I did try to recreate one of the eases using that method and it makes it better but still comes to a hard stop. Zoom easing is fine but position is still wonky. You should be able to see below the difference between the two.

  • I was quite taken with the Boltzens, I have to say but it would be nice to have more power for when I needed it. Battery-wise, I have a stack of those NP-F batteries that so many of the panels use and I was lead to believe that the 55w wouldn’t run at full power with a single one of those and you needed a special dual socket one that connected to the D-tap to run it off battery. And trying to run 100w lights and up on them is impossible. I’ve had a look at V-mounts and they’re almost as expensive as the lights as far as I can see and not an investment that seems greatly worth it just at the minute. In future, perhaps, but I have AC power for almost everything so it’s not really an expense I can justify.

As for the accessories, I agree with you that’s probably what it would be marketed as. The site has barndoors and 7″ reflectors etc. but this is a video talking about the Bowens mount fresnel lens I mentioned. You can skip to 5:10 (he goes on a bit – which is rich coming from me!). It may not be perfect but it would potentially do the job.

I’m all for keeping it simple! I’m well aware that my knowledge is lacking in areas but I’m building on it every day. I always thought that RGB and YUV were separate colour spaces (which is appears they are) which is why I was a little confused when YUV wasn’t a source input option on the couple of DCP creation tools I looked at. Especially given that, when I did a bit of reading, a lot of the articles I read said that YUV is the most common and is the broadcast standard.

Anyway, on the ProRes issue, I do have my old Mac machine (I still do my sound design, mixing etc. in Logic) and put the DNxHR through Adobe Media Encoder and there was a distinct loss of saturation and contrast when I did so which put me off going down that route. As for the festival, I completely take your point however, with this one, the festival isn’t actually handling the technical side themselves as the venue has its own staff given it’s history in my city. They actually updated the acceptable formats a few weeks ago adding DCP and a wider frame rate support that they didn’t initially know about so I reckon it can’t hurt to ask them (they’ve said any technical questions are to go directly to the cinema’s team).

I’ve checked it and it’s different yet again. I had an issue a while ago where I was importing some photographs and they came out with slightly the wrong colours. The only way to fix it was to import the original PSDs. No other format would get it right.

I did notice one thing while I was doing the grade. I would set the playhead where I wanted to be and the clip would come up slightly green, more like the export in the VLC window and then, after a few seconds, it would readjust to what you see there. Am I perhaps not seeing the real image and there’s a glitch? Below are the effects I have on this clip (though the whole sequence is affected) and most have the same effects on them with different settings:

Okay, scratch everything. Changing it to Level 5.1 turned it Progressive and HD which I can’t change. So I’m back to square 1. Original question still stands.

Thanks for putting me onto iMedia – that’s a cracker of a program. I’ve been looking for a nice easy one just like it. And I checked and it was interlaced. Thanks for all your help – I really appreciate it!

Okay, I seem to have fixed my weird quality issue (h.264 level set to 3.1 rather than 5.1 for some reason) but I’m still not sure of how to check that it is actually interlaced.

I managed to get it to change from “Progressive” to “Upper” (just needed an extra click to update) but I’m not sure how to check whether it’ll be read as an interlaced file. My settings are below:

I also seem to have some issues with the output file. A couple of the still images seem noticeably blockier and one of them’s been chopped in half. Examples:
