I have no experience with either camera, but having looked at both (and read or listened to what others have said), it depends on the feature set you want.

The two main things that I recall about these cameras are:

    — The FS7’s biggest advantage is the high frame rate capture for super slow motion shots.

    — The C300’s color science is just so nice, and doesn’t require the post-production manipulation that Sony’s needs to get to that eye-pleasing point.

Maybe try searching for “Canon C300 Mark II vs. Sony PXW-FS7M2” and look at the various articles, reviews and videos…

    Thanks for your reply Gary.

I’m not in the market immediately for a camera. My post was more about finding out what others think of one vs. the other, and deciding which features are more important to me when I am ready to buy one.

First let me say that I don’t understand the application/benefit of VFR. In fact I had to look it up to find out what it meant, and when I read the description of it I knew not much more than before. Why does that feature exist and what are its advantages?

I like the touchscreen feature on the C200. I like that it records CineRaw Lite, though since I’m on a Mac that’s not currently equipped to handle 4K, I’d have to transcode it all down to 1080 before being able to use it. But man, what a nice picture it has.

The C300 Mark II is recently more appealing though because of the price drop, and overall it seems to be more versatile in its recording options.

Thanks for your reply Mark! As it turns out, she was only looking for pricing information at this time.

I gave her an hourly rate based on data from payscale.com for video editing, using my local market (on the state level and the city level), averaging those state and city figures and accounting for an editor with entry-level experience (1-4 years). I did this because I considered the possibility that the next thing might that she would ask me to do it (and I only have entry-level experience so far).

I have since clarified that the pricing will depend on an individual’s experience, the market that they are in, and how they choose to bill (i.e. by the hour, by the day, or as a flat rate for the whole project).
