Thanks everyone! Y’all have been super helpful. What ended up working was a.) drawing a path that I want the object to follow, b.) copying a path keyframe and pasting it into the “position” of the object, c.) right clicking the object layer, and clicking transform/auto-orient/Orient Along Path to attach the orientation to the path d.) Adding and editing the “echo” effect, set to “composite in back”

Oh, noted. That’s really close to what I want, thank you.

I’m using a shape placed from illustrator though, it’s the green “X” you see in the screenshot. Is there any way to add a repeater to a specific vector like that? Should I redraw it in after effects, or maybe save it as an eps in Illustrator?

    Kevin, I actually think that’s E X A C T L Y what I wanted, thank you! It’s rendering right now, but you’ve put me light-years ahead of where I was. Thank you!!

  • That worked! My control layer WASN’T comp-sized and WAS scaled, I didn’t know that would affect that. Thank you, Dan!! This has been annoying me for days, I appreciate your help!

  • Dan, nothing happened when I tried that!
