Thanks heaps for all your post Joey.
I dont think I’m to far away from being able to do what you’ve suggested. I’m half way through AE Apprentice and my confidence is getting a lot better.
Thanks again….

so you would put something together?
this is what i need to portrait with the animated map….
I am in need of two high resolution [tiff files if possible] geographical, satellite maps that shows New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia. I need this map to show the political boundaries of New Guinea, Indonesia, Borneo, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Loas, VIETNAM, China and Japan.
The intention is to create a dynamic map that uses animation to display to distance from Wellington, NZ to Vung Tao, Vietnam. During this course the map will display stop off points in Australia and Singapore.Secondly, I need a High Res map of Vietnam. The intention here is to zoom in to South Vietnam once the first map reaches Vietnam. The final image is to show [as ‘zoomed in’ as possible] the geographical landscape of Vung Tao and the surrounding region.

Thanks Joey
I wanted to know this sort of thing before I purchased the plugin. I contacted Cycore with the same questions but didn’t really get anywhere.
Thanks heaps for pointing out the site where to get some decent maps from.
Have you had much experience in creating animated maps [like those you see on historical docs etc]? Its the reason i started to teach myself AE and PS. I’m looking for articles, tutorials anything related to this subject, both to learn how it do it, get some hints/tips or ideas/inspiration on how incorporate the map graphics into the subjects theme and create something a little more dynamic than the standard moving arrows- have you got any idea as to where I might find such resources or someone who specializes in this sort of thing?
Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks Mate,
You are always on the money.
Would you know how to generate a grid, manipulate it, and add other layers to it?

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply.
I’m very new to the Ps, FCP Suite etc so please forgive me if I’m asking stupid questions. It can be hard to explain in writing what I’m having trouble with….
Can I upload your DVD instead of waiting on snail mail?
So I’m trying to create this 3d effect. At the moment I’m in Ps selecting the portions of the photo I want to use. First question – due to my disability it takes me ages to select things, how do I start selecting a path, save it and then go back to the same path and finish it at a later time, whilst keeping it available to select as a new layer? So far if I start selecting a path with the pen tool, save it, go back to it later and start selecting the same portion of the photo, I end up with what looks like two separate paths.
Secondly, if there is a gap/hole in the portion of the photo that shows the background, how do I select this portion without taking the background with it? Can you use the pen tool to select the outline and then make another selection that doesnt touch the outline and then make a selection of both for the new layer? So thats what I’m trying to do/work out.
Thanks again for the reply. AND thanks for the tutorials….
Best regards,
Patrick

Did you do the course? i am signed up to lynda.com but it sounds like TT is more in depth…
Learning AE feels very hard….how long did it take you to be able to use it confidently ?

Where would I find that? The AE I’ve got came with CS4…
Thanks for the reply.

Hi Rafael,
When capturing content I get a few drop frames/time breaks. My user preferences are set to start a new capture on time breaks. The problem with this is that I miss a few seconds due to the pre-roll points.
I have so much to capture that I need to be able to start the capture and leave it to do its thing without having to sit there and monitor its progress. I’m capturing HD 1080i/50i and it doesn’t seem to work that well if I set it as an un-controlable device.
I’ve just setup an external firewire drive to store the captured content so its not going to my boot drive. Hopefully this will sort out the drop frame issue. It should because I’m using a 2 x 2.26 quad-core Mac Pro with 6G of RAM.
Does this make sense to you?
Thanks for the reply.

So when adding clips to the timeline from the viewer, you must include handles in order to apply transitions etc….?
Cant you just center a transition on the cut…?
thanks for the tip
