Folks, I already own a Panny HDX900 and HVX200 so I am already a DVCPRO HD fan. As the thread header suggests, I am looking for a discussion comparing the new JVC GY-HM700UXT and the SONY EX-3.

So the future of non linear editing is in the development of CPUs, GPUs, Memory and Storage? If that’s the case I’d venture a guess that we’ll be retired long before a real time 4K system (no wait-states for rendering in the NLE application suite) exists. Hardware acceleration on the video interface board has to be part of the architecture. No? yes?

Hardware acceleration for real time FX (and not just transitions). How about rendering acceleration for Motion and AE?

Well walter, I’m getting ready to buy 4 AJA KONA (3 or 4?) cards so I really hope that there is a new offering with more hardware acceleration in the cards, and soon! Like NOW!

Good advice and we doo have a consultant. I am also interested in real-world experience from multi-station FCP users.

We are coming to FCP from PPRO on Matrox Axio where proprietary codecs are the order of the day. So far we’ve just been using Apple Pro Res so you’re quite right, it’s a non-issue.

    Thanks!!

We’ll wait on the AJA but we’ll place the Apple orders.

Here’s a question that might apply: Can you open an AJA encoded project on a non-AJA machine in FCP? Same for AE? If so do you need AJA drivers or codecs on the Non-AJA machine? We may just use this method to get us through for the next 30-60 days for a few projects.

We bought into AJA because when we did a straw poll on the COW the response was overwhelming support for their products and support. The KONA LHe we started with (need analog I/O in at least one machine) seems like good technology. We are planning on adding several more FCP stations and I could place the order today but I realize the timing could be dicey, which is why i am fishing for any indications of new product release plan for KONA.

Wow, pretty much speechless after that lovingly crafted zinger of a response Bob. Sorry I asked.
