I’d agree the Z800 is a fantastic machine. A little too Maxc like for me in build terms but amazingly fast. The Z400 is also a very good machine. But I’d wait and see what the new versions bring as they promise to deliver even more and for MC6 it’s all about the CPU power.

If the links been lost you will need to remount them.
Easiest is to creat a new bin and remount the folders into that. The media will pop back online in the original bins.Pat Horridge

It’s not so different to the old legacy FCP
A simple serial number. No real protection.
Pretty sure Apple where happy for ftudents and the like to “share” and help FCP spread. Because every copy needed a Mac to run and it’s the hardware that makes Apple rich.Pat Horridge

You can convert a source clip by using the modify command and then multitrack audio.
You can create timeline tracks as mono, stereo, and surround (V6) and you can split a timeline track from stereo or surround to mono. But you can’t convert mono timeline tracks into stereo or surround.
The main reason why is backwards compatability with earlier versions of Media Composer. Don’t forget unlike most NLEs Avid has a strong reputation and history of backwards and forwards compatability and many rely on that.Pat Horridge

Also consider the speed you need.
Raid 0 is fast but lose one drive and all data is lost. The more drives in the raid the greater the chance one will fail.
RAID 5 offers protection but you lose some capacity and performance suffers unless you have a dedicated RAID card and a good one at that.Pat Horridge

Does the playback window flash a white outline before playback starts?
Does it happen when playing in the source or record window.

Interestingly your clients DVDs copy protection isnt even legally “breakable” by them or you even if they have the rights to it. The agreement for producing the copyrighted DVD explicitly denies anyone the right to break that protection. Mute point at a practical level but as an editor it better to not offer to break laws!
If you get a component HD signal out that a monitor can show then adding an HD TBC may solve the problem.
But it’s far easier to use something like TMPENG that has a neat DVD import wizard that lets you select the section you want and the choose an HD avid codec as export at HD frame size.
If copy protection is an issue there are tools around like DVDshrink that can make an unprotected copy (and not recompress) but using something like that is illegal of course so I can’t suggest it.Pat Horridge

We’ve been delivering FCP to Avid training for some time now and it’s really popular since the FCP “upgrade”
It’s well worth a few days training by an instructor who knows both and can teach the cross over skills.
If you don’t learn the best way to work with avid you will always struggle against it.
Almost everyone who dies the cross training leaves really appreciating what Avid does best.
We also do a number of specific Avid courses do cover the AMA ingest and export stuff that is increasingly powerful yet complex to get to grip with at first.Pat Horridge

A couple of things.
Have you tried transcoding?
Is the destination drive the correct format (ie not file size limited)
Have you tried sub clipping the main clip and consolidating that?Pat Horridge
