Well, Dave, OpenGL does seem to work with my machine. Rendering seemed to be much smoother after I flipped it on. However, I changed other settings as well. Could have been a combination or exclusively something else. However, it does seem that things work much with much more power with opengl set.

With a program as complicated as AE…one can read books and watch tutorials and still miss minor points….

Sometimes I think I should just hire a tutor for a couple days.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate your reply.

I figured out what was wrong on my own. The main thing was that I did not have my opengl setting on. But actually I reconfigured everything in the rendering and output sections. And I was more careful about resizing images…they like being resized by half if possible. By the way, I was not zooming beyond 100%.

The thing about a devilishly complicated program like AE is that one switch not flipped can screw you up. In my case, several things were wrong. And these things were not covered in the tutorials and books.

Here is what I am doing…this is just a “proof of concept” trial.
I’m headed in the right direction. The idea is to convey the intense work and competition that it took for a North American firm to build this project in Beijing.

Thanks Greg. I did get it converted at one of the leading post houses here in Seattle. And it was a hardware conversion.

I was surprised that it was not much better than the freeware converters I tried. I understand that top of the line converters are Wilcox & Snell.

    Thanks.

Should have mentioned I am on Premiere Pro CS2. I have heard about the Natress plug-in…. I have gone through a lot of converters on the Windows side.

I always thought that hardware conversion was in any case better than software conversion…but this is far from perfect.

Yep. That was what I was thinking about. Thanks, Mike.

When I try to associate Premiere Pro CS3 is not listed. When I browse to find the executable…I find it, click on it, it appears in the proper space but does not form an association….In other words I cannot get it to come up in the recommended program window…it just disappears.

Am in the middle of a huge edit. Reinstalling the OS is not an option. I have a zillion programs and utilities(count ’em). Takes me two or three days and untold agony to reinstall everything.

The most exciting thing for me is the ability of the program to turn speech audio into text. One of the Avid models has this; it would be a big plus for a documentarian.

I called Adobe today to ask them if it could produce a transcript and they said it could but it would take major time.

Ok…have been able to animate a vertical stroke by using
    Effect>Generate>Stroke

Now, if I could attach a circle to the upper end of that animated stroke, I would feel like I have made some real progress.

    Any suggestions?
