    Nothing? 🙁

  • Will do. I guess that’s the only way for now… sticking to my old workflow -switching back and forth between Ae and Pp. thanks anyway, and i’ll let you know if I find a solution…

  • Dave thanks. That’s exactly to problem – I DID use luma matt to show those particles only on the bright posts of the fractal, and in AE it all looks fine. It’s only when I render it out of there as a quick time mov with png codec, that there are nasty’ smirks’ all over the frame 🙁

  • Thanks John, It’s not only 1 short shot… it’s about 1.5 mins of video, on which i mostly gonna edit/work in PP, that’s why i preferred to bring the titles/particles as a RGB+alpha file into PP and render it all from there at the end. if it won’t work with different blending modes (or none) when i render in AE – i’ll have to render the whole video in PP (as one shot), place the rendered mov file into AE and render a final file from there.

Dave – Sorry for any confusion. i’ll try to simplify my problem here – all i want is just for the particles to show, whenever they fly over the bright parts of the fractal layer. for some reason after i render my comp in AE (QuickTime, NPG codec, RGB+,Million colors+) and bring it into PP, i get the ‘dirt over lens’ everywhere on the screen for the whole video(you can see it in the bottom screen shot on the left hand side). So i guess in that case it’s not the look i desire to get, it’s the look that i desire NOT to get 😉

Any ideas for what blending modes to use or PREVENT from using in my AE comp? in other words – what blending mode on my fractal comp is the one that creating the bad artifacts on my render?

    Ori.

  • Cool, so… Again, with what I have on these comps, what CAN I do to improve the situation and get rid of the ‘dirt on my lens’ look? I’m not near my com right now, but I believe you are right regarding the blending mode on pp layers (there is no such). Should I turn off our changing any blending node that iapplied to any layer in AE? Should I avoid from using any of them? I understand that this blending mode is the cause for my ‘dirt on glass’…?

  • Yup my png had an alpah on it. Should I do anything special when bringing it into PP?

  • Thanks Dave, yes I believe that at some point I did use blending for creating this particle/fractal layer, but can you please explain your suggestion per that blending mode and the Alpha in PP? I didn’t understand what you meant in that part… Thanks, Ori.

  • Never mind, i found a way! For windows / PC.
i never used it nor was aware to it before, but ‘Restore Point’ of Windows (7) totally saved me.
I’ll share here just in case someone else needs it; after searching on the adobe.com community, i found a similar case of someone with a mac (link to that case below), but i have a pc. so what i ended up doing on my PC was:
    1. go to (your hard drive letter here):Users(your user name here)AppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS5Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings
    2. there i found the file ‘Actions Palette.psp’
    3. the version i found was last modified today (which is what happened automatically after i started re-opening old action lists)
    4. right click on the file > properties > previous version
    5. in that previous version tab i found the my computer SAVED a backup restore point about 5 days ago. right click on that old file icon > save as somewhere on my computer (just in case)
    6. click on ‘restore’ > the computer tells you there is no coming back from this > click ok or yes
    7. open photoshop > check the actions panel > life is good.

What i’m going to do now is to:
    1. save my lists as they are right now (which i should have done long ago)
    2. check when my computer creates restore points, and make them more frequent on that settings.

(link to the mac case here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/4237068)

  • Thanks for your answer Dan. And also thanks for the links. I’ve been browsing around both of them for the last year (Adobe AND VideoCoPilot – awesome resource!)

At the end you wrote about bringing the rendered animations into my vid editor. That brings up another, very basic yet important workflow question:
I’m using Premiere Pro and i was thinking about cutting the video itself in premiere and bring the layers from there into AE, then to apply fades (from to black) on the video layers in AE, maybe even some playing with time remapping (just because it’s easier for me to ‘set it by bits’ in AE) then add the TXT animation layers insdie AE.
All so that at the end i’d just render it all from within AE. Is that a bad way to do that?

there are things that are easier in each software for me; transitions and fades in PP, while titles, time remap, CC in AE.
I never know if stuff like that should be done as ‘rendered / sequenced animations from AE imported into PP’ or as ‘clean cut video layers from PP imported into AE’ 🙁
and no matter which one i’ll import into which one – what file type should i render into, in order to keep the quality high between the 2 programs? the final product should be good for both – full HD screen and HD on the web…

any way to make a smart decision about that workflow? does such workflow suppose to work for me everytime? when WON’T it?

    thanks again,
    Ori.

  • hmmm… i didn’t know this limitation was fixed. now it makes more sense to work smoothly between them and use each for specific ‘patches’ when needed. i’ll look more into that workflow. thanks Todd!
