Dear Jaap and David,

I would start by thanking both of you for you time and patience trying to solve my problem. I have used the video tutorial- It is great, and DID solve my problem.

Just a little background information about me… I started working with FCP about a year ago. When I got it, I started reading the manual, but it immediately turned me off since it looked like Cheinese to me. I learned only by trying and googleing my problems. For a whole year i think I accomplished great understanding of FCP technically, and of editing as an art form. I do believe that trying and failing, together with researching answers, and sometimes posting is the best way, for me, to learn the craft.

I’m a writer and a filmmaker. I also edit my own films, so like to play around with FCP, learn tricks etc. , but lately I also preferred spending my time creating materials, so reading the manual is not something I would or could do at the moment.

Jaap is right, this is my first post here. I actually opened the account ONLY because I couldn’t seem to find an answer to it on the manual or in forums (even though it seems to me now it in the category of “simple common questions”)- and I thought the two problems are effected by one another. I spent two nights trying to research it.

Bottom line, I appreciate your great help. The fact that you raised a discussion about it only shows me you care, and I arrived at a good place.

Jaap- Wherever you may teach, I’m sure you are a fantastic teacher.

Ok – problem #1 solved!

I opened a New sequence and played around with the configurations- I’m editing DV not HDV and it was set on Apple Intermediate codec.

Now problem #2- How do I get rid of the orange stripe it gives me every time I add a new video?

It still does that.

Unfortunately, I can’t see the option you mentioned in the “User Preferences” under “Editing”

Any reason for that?
