I suppose the crux of it for me really is that can I maintain portability without sacrificing speed too much and keeping costs fairly low(ish for a Mac).

If 16GB of RAM is going to give me much better (and really noticeable) performance, then there is really only one choice – a desk top iMac, 2.7GH – i5.

However, if I can get away with a MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and only a 2.2GHz i7 – then brilliant! That is my preference.

The real thing as I’ve mentioned is the degree of noticeable difference. If the lower spec can give me quick render times and get me away from a infuriating wait for display render times – then that is my choice.

I wondered about peoples experience with difference machines on here to help me find out the answer. It’s a lot of money to spend!

PS – Geekbench doesn’t show the RAM that is in the machine.

That might explain a lot as the max RAM on my machine is 4GB!!

OK – so just as a case in point, do you think it’s also worth investing in the faster machine and RAM for the cost different? Its $400 extra I think.

The reason I say this is I’ve just looked online and you can only upgrade to:
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB

Not 16GB like I thought.

The other alternative – although i’m not as keen on this as it’s not portable, would be to go get a 27inch iMac, 2.7GHz but with AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB.

Can then upgrade to 16GB RAM.

Sorry. Now solved. Took footage into FCP and rendered out as QT, then dropped into AE. Bit of a pain, but at least a solution.

BTW, should I be working with 25 or 50fps for AE with 1080i?

Thanks. Just did another 1080i test. Set field dominance to none. Worked fine now!

Still have to render one of the camera’s footage tho, even tho they are both 1080i 25 fps

Upper (Odd) when I load the Z5 1080i first and actually the same when I load the EX1 1080i first.

PS – Just found a couple of forums threads saying to convert one to the other in compressor.

So could convert the Z5i into progressive, then pop in the timeline with the 720p from the EX1?

Its weird that I seem to get really bad alaising (especially when the image moved) when I used 1080i from the EX1 with the 1080i from the Z5, but progressive looked ok!?

Thanks. When I tried to mix 1080i on both camera’s, the result was worse than 720p and 1080i on the Z5.

Test was ok, but admittedly on a locked off Z5 shot, so couldn’t see motion. Will test again with a moving clip to be sure.

What things should we look out for as how can we overcome them?

I really don’t want to have to shoot interlaced with my EX1, but will do if needed.

Why do you think there will be a problem?

The Z5 won’t produce a decent image progressive, so would all have to be shot interlaced.

Also, I cannot for the life of me find an article that explains what value you should be looking to set the CPV (cost per view) for YouTube/Adwords campaigns. You can set it as low as a penny or high as you like I presume. But I can find no information on how to set an effective level.

You are right. It’s a minefield as things change so quickly. I don’t want to make my customers promises I cannot fulfil, but I want to give them the best advice. I am meant to be an expert after all!

There are lots of ‘video seeding’ and ‘video platforms’ out there, but they seem to be for the big boys. What I really want is a way of distributing the content to a local geographical area.

I’ve brought countless books on the subject but as I say, they are all limited in their exploration of the subject.
