Okay, results!
> If you have a corrupted prerender somewhere in your project, you may be able to flush it out by: TOOLS > CLEAN UP PRERENDERED VIDEO.
Alas, this did not do the trick.
> If you’re using Vegas Pro, try dropping your Dynamic RAM Preview (Options – Prefs – Video) to 128 MB. and your render threads to 1 and see if that helps.
This worked! Unfortunately it made the render take about two or three times at long but Christ, at least it WORKED.

Ah, sorry. I’m using the “Sony Chroma Keyer” green screen effect.
I looked in the Sony Vegas folder but didn’t see anything like a temp folder. Is there an unusual name for that folder?
I tried a test on just 25 seconds of footage with the same Chroma Keyer effect and the exact same rendering settings…and it worked fine! I tired rendering the whole video again, thinking maybe something had given, but the program crashed during rendering.
Any thoughts? (P.S. Thanks for your help so far).

Thank you for the suggestion Steve – I did not know you could do that!
Though it come up with a message asking me if I wanted to go back to
default settings, after clicking “Ok” the program booted up with the same problem.
