In my case the Conformed Media Cache was not assigned to any folder.
Try going to Edit>Preferences>Media and Disk Cache>Conformed Media Cache and assign (choose from the drop down menu) a folder. I have the same folder assigned for both Cache and Database.

When I import .mp3 files I get an error:
Audio conforming failed: Check media cache preferences. After i click “ok” the file gets imported the icon at the top of the project window displays that it it’s a sound file, color coding in the time line looks normal(green), but it does not play and it does not display an audio wave in the layer window.

When i import .wav files I do not get the error message, but file does not look normal: it’s grey in the time line, It does not have a sound wave icon at the top of the project window, it does not display an audio wave in layer window and it DOES NOT WORK

I am experiencing the same issue with audio files. Have you had this problem resolved. Please, help
