M- The h264 is just by habit. That’s the format my web player likes and I was just going to load a proof for the client.
O- I can run it through Sorenson but seems it should be easier than that. 16×9 program should export a 16×9 clip. I took a clip from a 4×3 program line and it exported out as the same size. So one looks a little stretched and the other looks squeezed. The final product will be projected on a screen at a fundraiser and I’ll deliver it as a .mov and dvd. They have not decided how they are playing it yet.

The problem here is that i just switched to the Blackmagic Designs studio 2 card from Kona because with the tv station I get all kinds of footage both analog and digital. I’ve been trouble shooting the analog inputs and was changing a bunch of settings around so i figured i must have switched something. I’ve never had an issue with exporting HD clips. I’m just not understanding why the 4×3 and 16×9 programs would both export to a 720×486 clip.

Not in front of the computer but from memory.

Quicktime h264, high quality, 44100, lower field, exporting audio and video
None of this addresses the 16×9 vs 4×3 though. Preferences are set at 525 16×9 video in. I’m probably missing something but does that shine any light?

No. I even updated to version 2 to see if that would fix the issue. Taking video in via firewire looks fine now but anything i import as AVCHD is about 20% dark.

I checked there. Everything is set to factory settings and it seems to have changed after having the card in for a couple months. There’s nothing specific I remember changing in Media 100 and I haven’t changed anything on the card. Also neither source is through the cards inputs, they are all via firewire or card reader.

Good one. Nice work around but sounds like this might be my excuse to do the upgrade. I have years of stock on multiple different formats for the station so this problem will continue. Thanks for the info. N

So for the record, none of the BMD decklink PCIe cards work in the G5s with PCIe slots. Something I really thought I had checked on but a detail no one knew of from Media100 to B&H so I can’t feel too stupid. Love it when a base upgrade turns into a hemorrhage of new gear need. Thanks for the help Floh.

Yeah. It seems that the card may not work on anything but an intel mac. I would swear i checked but… Waiting for tech support to open.

Thanks Floh. No the computer starts up fine but M100 gets to the first little splash screen, the progress bar for start up reaches the end and it quits. i installed the drivers that came with it but didn’t consider the ppc different driver issue. I’ll have a look at BMD’s site. N

Wow. Thanks. That was a pretty ridiculous process. Must have missed this in the manual.

Thanks Wick. That’s exactly the laundry list I was looking for. The drives should be the original drives for the edit but I’ll have to check. The project will be mastered out on the m100. This is a bit of an investment as my time goes right now because it’s for a friend who’s live uplink business is booming and he’s going to need a reliable outlet to remix the live mix for television distribution. I’ll work get the other details and check back. Thanks again. N
