Unfortunately that sounds about correct for those system specs and formats.

Straight exports are typically to GPU. Certain plugins use more CPU as well as h.264 exporting to name a few. In my experience watching Activity Monitor during export isn’t particularly useful.

So basically treat proxies as your original media- sure that would work if you are cool with seeing only proxies as your edit.

Problem is FCPX will not toggle back and forth between proxies created outside of the app and original media. They’ll treated as two different clips.

Why not create the proxies in FCPX instead? Resolve is far more forgiving on relinking than FCPX is.
